The sunset show
by SirRichard
Everyday in Oia takes place the same show in the evening. Hundreds of tourists gather near the castle, at the northrermost point of Oia, to watch the sunset.
You have to go there at least 1 hour before if you wanna have a nice place. Take a place where you can sir down, the sun sets at 20h in summer.
It's interesting to watch the people in the meanwhile, how they climb to unbelievable heights to have a place for the show.
Applauses at the end. Jams to go out too!
Main square
by ZiOOlek
I would say that Oia has three main places - a square with a bus station, the end of the island with the view of sunset (above Amoudi Bay) and the main square - Nikolaou Nomikou.
The square skirts the caldera and many people take photos from this place. The most important building on the square, and probably also in all Oia village is the Greek Orthodox Church. It is open to the public, every evening during high season. The entry is for free.
There are sometimes being taken some concerts on the square. Almost every evening it is also a plce where children play a ball.
OIA - A PLACE OF INCOMPARABLE BEAUTY
by LoriPori
"FABULOUS SUNSETS"
The traditional village of OIA 11 km to the north of Fira, is a place of incomparable beauty. The unique appeal of Oia or Ia lies in its little houses, hewn out of the soft rock, with some of them white-washed and others painted blue or ochre. There are basically only two streets, one with traffic and the much more pleasant inland pedestrian lane, Odos Nikolaos Nomikou, paved with marble and lined with numerous jewelery shops, tavernas and bars. The remains of the ruined Lontza Castle at the western end of town is the best place to catch the famous Oia sunsets.
There is a superb view of the seas there - a photographer's dream. Friday evening the VT group was there to witness a splendid sunset.
Come along with Hans and I and experience the beautiful town of Oia.
