Ferry from Santorini to Crete - need help

by jims99

My wife and I will be visiting Greek islands in June.
I am having great difficulties on finding a ferry from Santorini to Crete on June 9th (Date is fixed!). The only ferry service I found is HELLENIC SEAWAYS, but as luck would have it, they have no service on that date.
Can anyone help me locate other ferry services.
Thanks, Jim

Try Blue Star Ferries.

Other than changing your travel date your only other option would be a flight, either back through Athens on Aegean Airlines or Olympic Air, or on www.skyexpress.gr direct and non-stop between Santorini and Heraklion, Crete. But be advised that the planes used by Sky Express are small and their baggage allowances are small and strict. Be sure to read the fine print.

Hi,

Seajets will have a sevice and so have ANEK on some days so it's of no consequence that the Hellenic Seaways catamaran is not running that particular Wednesday 9 June.

The Seajets announce their schedules around April and ANEKs are already known. So you should have no problems at all. Another catamaran might also be running. OK schedules are announced rather late but there are definately alternatives.

It is not necessary to change your date.

Thank you all for suggestions. I have done more research, but in vain. You’re Janet, I’m forced to change travel day. I overestimated ferry service among Greek islands, as I’ve been spoiled by plentiful ferry services especially in Amalfi coast area.
Lee, as to air service, Santorini-Athens-Iraklion is not practical – very expensive and would take too long. Direct flights on small planes – I’m not too keen flying “puddle jumpers”

Ouzone,
I followed your leads, but not too much success:
Seajets has the MegaJet liner, but it arrives Iraklion 22:40 – a bit late for me to pick-up rental car.
Anek has service every few days, including 8th and 12th June , but nothing on 9th.
If you come across other leads, by all means, kindly advise me.
I understand that some liners will provide schedules in April, but I’m concerned about waiting, as in case I still need to change hotel reservations, re-booking may not be possible.
Jim

No ferry yet. Being patient and optimistic for new schedules to be posted mid-April.

Finally! The SEA-JETS ferry company just posted its seasonal schedule, and indeed, they do have a 09-Jun service from Santorini to Heraklio, arriving 21.00, a bit late, but no complaints. Already made reservations.
Thank you everyone for help and suggestions.

That's great that you got your booking. If the sea is rough the ferry will rock from side-to-side. If it makes you uncomfortable, once you're under way try to move to the seating along the centerline of the ship where that motion is kept to a minimum.

Travel Tips for Santorini Island

Wine growing on the hillsides

by Erin09340

Don't miss the opportunity to go to taste the local wines. And if you can, send me a bottle of the Canava Roussos white. They don't ship it off the island and it's so good on a summer day. Perfectly light and refreshing.

OIA - A PLACE OF INCOMPARABLE BEAUTY

by LoriPori

The traditional village of OIA 11 km to the north of Fira, is a place of incomparable beauty. The unique appeal of Oia or Ia lies in its little houses, hewn out of the soft rock, with some of them white-washed and others painted blue or ochre. There are basically only two streets, one with traffic and the much more pleasant inland pedestrian lane, Odos Nikolaos Nomikou, paved with marble and lined with numerous jewelery shops, tavernas and bars. The remains of the ruined Lontza Castle at the western end of town is the best place to catch the famous Oia sunsets.
There is a superb view of the seas there - a photographer's dream. Friday evening the VT group was there to witness a splendid sunset.
Directly below lies the Beach of Amoudi. This is where we had our Friday VT Dinner ( The Sunset ). The only way to Ammoudi is by foot, going down 214 steps. The descent just about did me in. Thanks Jim (Outforlunch) for sticking with me on the way down. Those slippery, sloping stairs sure are treacherous. The hard part is the way up so thank god Galatea arranged for coaches for us.

Perivolos beach

by Lilasel

Located at the end of Perissa is Perivolos - a meeting point for the young at age and at heart of course, with a quiet beach featuring waterfront restaurants and fish tavernas, bars and clubs with great music, rooms to let and sport facilities. My favourite beach in Santorini where i spent most of the time together with my friends.

The Art Space Gallery and Winery

by greekcypriot

The Art Space Gallery and Winery is located in the small village of Exo Gonia.

Art Space is a winery built in 1830.It is owned by Antonis Argiros, whose great-great grandfather built it and it is now a gallery as well as a winery. You will find some pretty good art in a fascinating setting and at the end of the tour you sample Antonis wine which in my opinion is excellent.

Open Daily: from 11a.m. to sunset
