Ferry arrival by SirRichard Domatia are private rooms that locals have for rent in the most touristic places. You don't have to book in advance (though U may), they will come to you at the main ferries arrivals, showing pics of the rooms, rates, location... In Ithaka, I rented a private room (domatia) from an old woman I found at the street. She spoke only greek but we agreed fast. view from the second Deluxe Seaview Suite by mapakettle This was an all inclusive resort, which means all meals are included in the price. Our Auction price included breakfast for two, but no other meals. Our first (and only) dinner was a fiaso. Our menu had no prices, so we had to ask the waiter. He looked surprised, really had no idea. We were quoted three different prices that night by three different waiters. Eventually, the waitstaff asked the owner/manager, who, still miffed over our room change, with a flick of her wrist, quoted 50 euro per meal per person. The waiter, in a most embarrased voice told us that the price allowed us to visit the buffet table as often as we liked however... That would mean a hefty 200 euro price per day for lunch and dinner. Ridiculous. We declined. However, this also meant we could not partake of any amenities such as the pool facilities, beach, or the entertainment night, since no other restaurant was located within easy walking distance of the complex (the closest town was Kamari, over an hour away). We were made to feel like the poor cousin who has come to visit. We felt like we were entering the hall of shame every morning when we went for our free breakfast. Staff served us, but not with the same wonderful attention they bestowed on other guests. Our room was cleaned, but casually, the bed was made, but our glasses were never exchanged for fresh ones, linen was questionable, and the floor was never mopped. Footprints in the dust made on our first day, were still there upon check-out. The bathroom was shoddy, with a gaw'd awful smell of sewer. All furniture was thread bare, with discoloured fabric. The pictures hung askew from the walls. Basically, little care or maintenance appeared to be given to this property. Turning on the A/C was a hazardous experience, as depressing the switch required numerous attempts which eventually created a loud snap, and flash. We went through this proceedure every time we entered the room as the A/C automatically shuts off upon opening the door.
To be fair, the hotel had a wonderful pool, as well as lovely gardens located immediately within the complex itself, with lots of flowers and palms. The beach area was laughable, poorly maintained, garbage accumulated in the 'weeds', and the beach surface was made up of David and Goliath ammunition sized stones. We were expecting a Five Star, care free holiday, with wonderful meals, and evenings spent relaxing around the pool, enjoying the company of fellow guests. Instead, we were forced to remain away all day, returning late in the evening in time for bed. This portion of our holiday was a disaster. I reported it to VT upon our arrival home, and assured the VT staff that we did not feel that they were responsible in any way. To their credit, they offered us a parcel of VT goodies to help make up. We declined, because it was not VT's fault. The hotel lost an opportunity for good reviews, due to faulty judgement on the part of management. They entered into the agreement to offer their property on an auction basis, and they should have been prepared to fulfill their obligations, regardless of the price paid by the customer.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday - June 1, 2 & 3, 2007 One of the more venerable hotels in Fira, HOTEL KAVALARI, was originally a captain's house and retains its traditional island architecural style. Situated on the rim of the Caldera, 300 metres above the sea, the property has exterior stairways which wind down the cliff face to various flowered terraces overlooking the volcano. Rooms are built directly into the cliff with access to various terraces where guests can relax, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and spectacular sunsets. Each room faces the caldera and has its own character, some resembling small caves. Our room was decorated with traditional furnishings and included private bathroom, satellite TV, mini-fridge and one huge double bed. The hotel is conveniently located near the bus and taxi station and near the Greek cathedral Mitropoli. Actually, it was great too because, the VT meeting area was right in front of our hotel. It is also close to banks, the post office, museums and a variety of excellent restaurants. Prices ( VT price 102 Euros ) include daily maid service and a continental breakfast every morning. The breakfast area was absolutely wonderful, with breathtaking views of the caldera. Breakfast usually consisted of coffee/tea, orange juice, rolls/croissants with jams, honey & cheese. Check-in time is 14:00, but because our room was ready we were able to check in before noon. Check-out time is 12:00 - if needed you can store your luggage in the lobby area until you are ready to leave. Hans and I loved it here and would strongly recommend it. The Kavalari was soooo romantic and a great place to stay if celebrating an anniversary ( we were celebrating our 35th year of marriage) Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Near the Greek Cathedral MitropoliPhone: 30 2286022455Website: www.kavalri.com Other Contact: E-mail info@kavalari.com

The perfect place by Orkaena I stayed twice in Zoe Aegeas houses, and twice I was very satisfied. The houses are arranged with good taste and equipped with the essentials for a good time, including maiden services. The houses are well located in Oia Village, the view always invite you to stay a whole life in them. The owner, Giannis, is a great guy and he is always attentive for your needs.

If I had any doubts if I had made the right choice when booking my hotel in Santorini , all doubts disappeared when I saw this little gem. This lovely boutique hotel is very central in Fira, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Every detail was thought to make your stay the best, from the beautiful rooms to the lovely balconies with amazing caldera views and the friendly and extremely nice hosting of Mr. Fanes, the owner. Each room is different, though they are all delightful and very romantic. We were upgraded to a huge cave apartement, the Vanilla Room, which was beautiful, with a living room, cable tv, dvd, cd player, small kitchen, cotton bathrobes and even candles. We had a balcony where we had an excellent continental breakfast , which is provided if you ask , for only 7 euros per person. I enjoyed the sunset in this balcony and one of the days Mr. Fanes brought us two glasses of Santorini white wine, that made our delight. He went out of his way to provide everything we needed!
The views are excellent and the small details everywhere throughout the hotel, along with the owners friendliness. There is also an openair jacuzzi with amazing views. View from my Room by janetanne My family owned hotel, was located just behind the church of St. Gerasimos in Firostephani. The owner' son, Manos, and his sister, Irini made my stay so comfortable, that I couldn't have found a better place unless perhaps if I had paid triple the amount. Since I was travelling on a budget, this hotel suited my needs perfectly. My room was small, but clean and convenient. There was a shower, toilet, refridgerator, kettle and comfortable bed. The view from the veranda was directly onto the caldera. It was quiet and clean. This hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the main town of Fira. If you want to be away from the noise and crowds, I highly suggest a stay in Firostephani. Tell Manos that Janet sent you and tell him hello from me!
Next to the hotel, the owners also operated a mini-market which has just about anything you could possibly need. You can buy things for your breakfast and make it yourself, or you can order breakfast for an additional cost to the room charges. I visited Santorini as the first port of call on a month-long island hopping trip in September 2005. My research suggested that this would be one of the most expensive islands to stay on and affordable accommodation seemed to be in short supply. Thankfully, I stumbled upon the Hotel Olympia. The hotel is located in the village of Karterados, a 10-15 minute walk from the capital, Fira. For just 25 Euros a night, I got a clean, spacious en-suite room with air conditioning, a fridge and satellite TV and a continental breakfast. I was also picked up at the airport upon my arrival and taken to the port when I was ready to leave, all included in the price. The hotel has a swimming pool and ample sun loungers (all free of charge), as well as a poolside bar. In mid-September the summer crowds had dropped off so I pretty much had the pool to myself. The breakfast is basic, and consists of the same each day - three slices of toast, three slices of cheese, butter, jam, orange juice and coffee or tea. But considering this is included in the price, it would be unfair to criticise the rather uninspiring selection. Transfers to/from the port/airport are undertaken in the hotel's minibus. The minibus is also available if you wish to be transferred elsewhere (eg for a daytrip) - but this may incur an extra charge. It is worth noting that by booking in advance I paid only 25 Euros per night. The official room rate at the time I visited (September 2005) was 35 Euros WITHOUT breakfast. I spoke to one guy who had turned up and negotiated a rate of 30 Euros per night, with breakfast but without transfers. Booking in advance seems to be the best option. If you're visiting Santorini and you're travelling on a budget, then this is a great choice of hotel. If you're prepared to forego a spectacular cliffside location and instead make a short walk into the town, then this is the hotel for you. Highly recommended!

sights to look forward to when out strolling by mapakettle As mentioned, the area surrounding the hotel is rather desolate. Nothing like the pictures you've seen of Santorini Island. Photo ops are limited. The picture attached is of one of many fields we saw as we walked from the hotel to Kamari. There is no choice of scenic trails, this is it. We did not search intentional for garbage strewn lots.
Once you reach Kamari by foot, you will enjoy the townsite, and beautiful beaches. Unfortunately you must pass the fields as indicated in the picture.

by Lilasel Imerovigli Palace is situated in a peaceful location at the top of the narrow part of Santorini island, after Imerovigli village going towards Oia, with a unique 360° panoramic view, overlooking the caldera, the cliffs & the surrounding islands. Imagine that maybe only here at Imerovigli Palace you can enjoy sunset on the caldera, sunrise on the Aegean Sea and a romantic moonshine on the caldera...
Here is one of the largest swimming pool of Santorini (25 meters) and a children’s pool.

Airport fence on right, Dameia Palace on left by mapakettle Location of this hotel is horrible. It is situated directly across from the Santorini Airport. Every aircraft that arrives or departs is heard by the guests that are enjoying the comforts of the 5 Star amenities and 5 Star prices. Nothing within walking distance, but Kamari is obtainable during the day with a hike of over an hour. At night, no illumination along the road makes walking hazardous due to narrow roadway, plus desolate surroundings tend to make you think twice.
Great pool, no doubt. Great gardens within the complex.
