A magnificent view of Fira!
Fira, is the biggest city of Santorini and the main comercial center of the island. The strange(and beautiful) thing is that the whole city is not builded in coastal as usual, but at the top of the hill!

I just checked the archives and didn't find anything :( ...
I need a ferry from athens to santorini. I want to see the cost, etc... Then a reasonably priced hotel for one night (I don't need the beach, just the view) . I saw a bunch of hotels on expedia, but rather have a recommendations. I don't want to be deserted at night, maybe stay somewhere where there's people out and about at night..
Budget for hotel? 100 - 150 euros? or is that too little?
Ferries depart from Piraeus and arrive at Thira.

when i took the ferry from athens to santorini is was overnight. you can get various types of tickets, we just had the basic so sort of slept on our bags. it was fine when i was younger but wouldn't do it again. when you get to santorini there will be people waiting to offer rooms, you can go see them and then agree on if you'll take them or not. we ended up staying by the black beach on the west side of the island, there were plenty of people around but no where as crowded as the main town. went there for the sunset views but staying there would have been a lot more and not as restful. it's pretty easy to get around the whole island. we hired a car for the day to see it all. enjoy.
If you take the 7:30am Blue Star Ferry from Athens/Piraeus you will arrive at Santorini at 3:30 in the afternoon and will enjoy the scenery at Paros and Naxos as well as the entrance into the caldera at Santorini before docking.

Stay in Firostefani or Fira for the easiest access to Fira's nightlife. In your price range check availability with Hotel Mylos, Caldera Butterfly Villas, Scirocco Apartments, Villa Ilias, Villa Maria Damigou and Blue Dolphins Apartments. They all have websites.
Excuse me to chip in... Could u pl say a bit on how much does it cost to hire a car or motorbike during late June? I'm going to Fira for like 3 or 4 days on 20th June. The Bluedolphin got an offer...stay for 4 nights and get a free car rental during late June. Is it worth?
I don't know the current prices for Santorini but I am guessing that it will cost you about 15 euro/day for a motorbike. If Blue Dolphins is offering you a room in your budget and free car, take it. Cars rent for about 35 euro/day.

My last night out in Santorini was absolutely a blast, but I ended up a sweaty mess. Santorini is hot and humid and most bars are small. Combine that with dancing and you get sweat big time! Still, I have to say that if you are in a group the nightlife in Fira is fantastic. Just expect to loose some body mass in the process. Dancing on the bar is allowed as dancing in the bar!
Enjoy!
This is a scene I caught on our way home from dinner one night in Ammoudi, the harbor at the base of Oia's cliffs. The men are pulling the little fish (sardines, maybe? I should have asked! VT member Nada1712 tells me they are called "marithes") out of the fishing nets. On Naxos, I got to sample these fish in the traditional Greek way of eating them (at least, I think these are the same kind of fish). Lightly battered, cooked, sprinkled with salt and lemon, and eaten whole.
Perissa Beach is a beautiful black beach where one can leisurely pass the time away. It is recommended for all who just like to take life easy. Perissa Beach is easy to get to and the water there is magnificent. It is a great place to get a tan. If it gets too hot, just jump in the water and cool off. Bring along sunblock, swim truncks (or boardshorts) or a bikini which many people only half wear. Sandals are also a must as the black rocks get quite hot.
Vlychada is situated in the east of Santorini. It has a picturesque fishing harbour with tavernas overlooking it and a windmill taverna on the front too. The nearby beach is less crowded than the more renowned ones of Perissa or Kamari plus the pumice rock cliffs sculptured by the wind provide interesting detail. Umbrellas and beds are available for hire. There are chimneys of a tomato paste factory nearby which seems a bit bizarre for a beach landscape but the factories are no longer in use. We drove past here and jut made a quick stop for some photos. In fact driving through this area was quite strange with its moonscape outlook.
