I'm going to stay in Imerovigli, Santorini and was wondering if there are buses or taxis connecting this town with Fira?

Re: John3554

by brotherleelove

Yes, the bus between Oia and Fira passes through Imerovigli. http://www.ktel-santorini.gr

There are also taxis available that pass by, or your hotel can call one for you.

Depending on which hotel you've chosen Fira will be between 1-2 miles away, downhill, so walking back to your room might be more than you're willing to attempt, especially on a hot day.

Thank you very much for the helpful info,

Fira is about 2 km away and when I am there for a while I usually rent a scooter to go to the beaches. There are buses, taxis and rent a car on the island. Fira is quite compact and you can walk to almost everywhere. There is a tram on the cliff side. I walk down the donkey trail one time and going down was more harder than you think. I took the tram back up.

Do you have to have a car/motorbike driving license to rent a scooter??

Not for a scooter, no, but a valid EU driver's license is required to rent a car.

Travel Tips for Santorini Island

best island in Greece

by imallios

Enjoy the sunset in Oia or Fira. Also dive near the volcano and eat fresh fish.Don't forget nightlife and especially visit Tango bar. A violent summer storm with too much rain, caming gron the sea and passing over Santorini in 20 minutes time.
Also, by contrast to everybody, you must stay up until the sun rise (not only the sunset) and enjoy the colours.

View from Ancient Thira

by sandysmith

The rock separating Kamari from Perissa is known as Cape Mesa Vouno . Ancient Thira sits atop this barren rock - the site is more of an interest destination for tourists, and not much of an important archaeological site 'at this time'. Old building foundations are apparent, as is a poorly preserved theatre, and many very faint carvings of an erotic nature apparently. The site is only open from 8.30am - 2.30pm and is closed on Mondays - we were going to go on our last day..but that was a Monday. However we have seen many good archaeological sites in Turkey so didn't really feel as if we'd missed out. We drove up the hairpin bends and enjoyed the incredible views anyway. Superfit people (you know who you are) walked up here in 30 mins, if you don't have a car there is a minbus service from the bottom of the hill. Bear in mind there is still a bit of climbing once you reach the top bus stop. The hiking paths either side of the hill came be seen as well.

Red Beach

by Lilasel

Not far from the ancient sites at Akrotiri, is the red beach with the same name. You couldn't ask for a more breathtaking setting for a swim. Soaring red lava cliffs which drop right to the black sandy shore and into the clear blue sea make for a majestic setting and one to enjoy.

Don't forget ...

by Helga67

Something warm for the nights, as there is often a cold wind in the morning and at night, especially during spring and autumn. Sunglasses: due to the sun shining on the white houses, your are almost blinded without the sunglasses.

A Tribute to Santorini by Justin

Fira, the capital of Santorini clings to the edge of a cliff, which is, in fact, the rim of the crater!!

You have a number of ways to get there either by riding the donkeys or mules, up the winding steps or, for a modern-day travel experience, climb aboard the cable car that first came into vogue about 20 years ago.
