Our stay at Porta Fira couldn't have been better. This was my second visit to Santorini. The room was perfect, the best part being the breathtaking views. We stayed in Suite #18, which I would highly reccommend, as our balcony was HUGE. We were able to sit outside each evening and take in the sunsets. The hotel staff was very helpful, especially when I was first greeted as my cab dropped me off. Luckily, there was a staff member from the hotel who was waiting for me...and was nice enough to carry ALL of my bags up a huge hill and down the numerous steps to the hotel...which sits on a cliff overlooking the water. Porta Fira is a great hotel. I would's necessarily reccommend it for bringing kids along, it's a very romantic and relaxing place...I hope to visit again VERY SOON.
Unique Quality: We really enjoyed that our Hotel had a pool, as we stayed here in July, and it was pretty hot. Laying out at the pool was one of our favorite things to do during our visit to Santorini, as it sits on the edge of the cliff, and the only thing in view is the water and surrounding islands....the view just doesn't get any better than this.

I did not stay there but just stop by to have a cup of coffee. Very friendly and open year round. Locates right on the caldera. Check their web site.

Help! My husband and I are going to be in Fira in a month and I don't know which hotel to stay in. I'm definitely looking for a nice new/remodeled clean romantic (non-smoking?!) room with a private terrace/balcony, Caldera view, jacuzzi (in-room), good breakfast. Don't care if there is a pool. I'm willing to go as high as 200eur/night for the right place. Many places that look good don't open till April. Has anyone stayed in either of these hotels? I'm having a difficult time finding good reviews on them. I'd love to know about how many steps the hotels have and how far away they are from the center of town (restaurants, etc.). Also, Nefeles only has pics of larger suites on their website; I'd love to know what the cheapest one would look like, is it even worth considering?

Both have very positive reviews, I'm sure you would do fine in either.
We are considering a trip to Santorini arrivng 9th. I have been trying to find a hotel online, but all seem to be closed after Oct 31st. Will there be anything (hotels/retaurants/shops) open in November or is the place deserted?
most of the islands are abit deserted from the mid oct.i wouldnt recomment easily someone to go there.also because of the weather,it getting worse here, its not so sure if ships will be able to reach there.i dont know what is your plan but is better to think again.

(i have been in winter time in Santorini and its fantastic)
