hotel in Santorini

by Elsie0648

We wish to book for a hotel in a quiet location in Santorini but with sunset and volcano views and with less steps in April 26 for 3 nights stay. Would you suggest Akrotiri or Imerovigli? Thanks, Elsie

Akrotiri is the quietest village with a sunset and caldera view but it's also very far from everything. Imerovigli is at the highest elevation over the calder so the caldera and sunset views are better there than anyplace else on the island. Many hotels in Imerovigli do require some step climbing but as far as I know none of them in Akrotiri do. One in Imerovigli that's quiet and does not have any steps is "Caldera's Memories".

Hi

We stayed at Irini Villas in Imerovigli. Stunning views and great accommodation. Spa Pool and outdoor deck.
There are a few steps, but very manageable (and we are not spring chickens either!)

Travel Tips for Santorini Island

The sponge guy - Abzorba the Greek

by JohntheFinn

You see this chappy selling his wares here and there around Santorini. You can get sponges cheaper in a supermarket, but this is THE place for a quality item. Can you tell the difference between a top-notch sponge and an ordinary one? Neither can I, but the sponge guy can. He's dived for sponges all around the Mediterranean for many years and he knows his business. One piece he sold me he assured me would last a lifetime, and after six years it’s showing no signs of wear.
You’ll see him in Fira, Kamari, Perissa and elsewhere as he makes his rounds.

Flowers of Santorini

by cnango

While walking around Fira and Oia we saw beautiful flowers (mostly bouganvillias) climbing up trellises and white washed walls. The colorful blooms seemed to thrive in the bright Greek sunshine. Due to very little rainfall or irrigation in Santorini they must be handwatered for the most part. These are just a few of the pictures we took on our "photo safari".

AMAZING VIEWS

by LoriPori

I guess the thing I will remember most about Santorini are the AMAZING VIEWS. They simply take your breath away. The terrace from our hotel was an amazing spot as you could see the islands in the distance. Far - yet close. There - but not quite. A space for solitude. From there I could also feel the wind blowing softly over my face - the sun warming my body - truly magical!

Hot Springs are Popular in Santorini

by greekcypriot

Hot springs is called a location at Palia Kameni (old burnt), one of the two volcanic islands in the middle of Santorini Caldera. The water there has a temperature of about 33 Celcius and it contains sulfur that is good for the skin.

It is included into most caldera excursions and visitors wishing to swim in the hot springs have to swim from their boats into the muddy-looking bay. The boat can't pull up to land since it is too shallow so instead it anchors in deeper water and you jump off the boat into some cool water!

A swim and a mud bath can be quite refreshing after a hot walk to the volcano!

Take the Boat Trip! A must

by andidasmom

Seriously, take the boat trip to the neighboring volcano and hot springs. This is a once in a lifetime experience. You are picked-up by the boat in either Amoudi Bay or Armeni (both in Oia) in the morning, you visit the volcano and then proceed to the hot springs (swimming is optional). Afterwards you go to Korfos port for a wonderful lunch (cheaper here than normal, you will be surprised). I even feed the fish from where I was seating during lunch. I fed them my bread. Then you are brought back again to either Amoudi Bay or Armeni in Oia. The boat leaves Amoudi at 10:15AM and 10:30AM from Armeni and comes back at 3:45PM. Boat Trip cost is 27 euros and does not include lunch or entrance to the volcano but it includes guided tour.
