Beaches
by Helga67
Most beaches on Santorini are black lava sandy beaches and are located on the east side of the island. The most famous ones are in Perissa and Kamari.
However, I liked especially the Red Beach, near Akrotiri. It is located in a quitter area in the southern part of the island. The beach is composed of black and red volcanic rocks.
It can only be reached by boat or private car. From the parking lot you still need to walk over a rocky path towards the beach.
There is a kiosk with drinks on the parking lot.
Fira, the capital of Santorini
by Aggeliki
"Fira" is the capital of Santorini island. It is built on Cycladic architecture. The volcano’s view from the town is magnificent. A walking in the narrow streets and a cup of coffee in an open-air cafe, are some things you will remember forever...
pups

Santorini, and Greece in general, has some of the cutest dogs just wandering around the islands. A lot of people avoid them, but I couldn't resist. They just cruise around the island and find their way back again. It's pretty amazing.
Panagia Episkopi
by Helga67
Panagia Episkopi is one of the most important Byzantine churches of the island, built in the 12th century. This church has managed to survive various invasions as well as the many earthquakes on the island.
It is set amidst vineyards along a bumpy road near Mesa Gonia. You will find signs when you take the main road between Fira and Kamari. It is hidden behind a high wall and covered by trees, go through the gate beyond the parking lot.
Inside you can admire some beautiful wall paintings and icons. Unfortunately many of the churches treasures were destroyed by a fire in 1915.
Entrance fee is 50 eurocent. You can take photos without flash.
Split Peas Puree: FAVA
by greekcypriot about Found in all restaurants on the island
The split-peas of Santorini are famous all over Greece. Why is that? Well, first of all, they are delicious when pureed. Plus, they cook pretty fast. The split-peas are a basic ingredient of many other dishes; the yellow puree that you get when you boil them marries really well with tomato sauce, capers, onions, meat, octopus and herbs like mint and parsley.
The split-peas are quite expensive, due to their advantage in cooking, amazing taste and flexibility in a variety of recipes.
Ask for fava at a restaurant! You will love it! Served as you see in the photo I have! Buy one or two packs from local groceries or locals selling them in open markets and cook them when you return home.
They can be given as gift as well to surprise your friends.
