Is this realsitic in 2 weeks!!

by LabhraiM

Hi, I am planning on travelling from Athens to Folegrandos to Santorini to Paros and back to Athens over 14 days. Is this realistic? Want to be able to relax and enjoy my holidays too!!

Also would you advise booking somewhere to stay before I go or are there better deals to be got by booking on spec?

Thanks!!!

Hi, I think you could easily achieve your plan. Last Sept we took a flight to Santorini, 3 nights, then Rhodes 3 nights and 2 nights in Athens on our way back to Australia.

We reserved our accommodation , however I would advise booking should you be visiting in peak season, you do not need to be searching for accommodation, that time is meant for sightseeing and enjoying yourself. Check out photos on my Santorini page.

Good Luck,
Mike

see www.openseas.gr for ferry-schedules between the islands. When travelling in high season, the Cyclades are full of(Greek) tourists.
When you travel in low-seson, you will find rooms very easy. maria

Yes that is possible in 2 weeks, bit rushed as you are going to be in 4 places, that is only about 2-3 days in each place.
Outside of hi-season Mid July to end August you can turn up on any island and accommodation is easy enough, and is reasonably priced.

Hi-season accommodation prices double and availability much less, ferries crowded, too hot, etc, etc.

Sounds to me like too many locations. Personally how do you like packing unpacking checking in checking out, and then moving on?
I prefer to stay longer in one spot and do day trips from there. Then you have a centralize place. Just a suggestion. I have crammed before and you spend alot of energy transporting yourself, and lose time could have been spent relaxing on the beach or seeing ruins etc.

Travel Tips for Santorini Island

A short geography of Santorini

by csordila

Santorini, is a group of islands, as follows:
:: Thera, which is the biggest, 75.8 km2, 7000 habitants
:: Therasia, 9.3 km2, 250 habitants
:: Aspronisi, 0.1 km2, uninhabited
:: Palea Kameni, 0.5 km2, 1 habitant
:: Nea Kameni, 3.4 km2, uninhabited; still active, its last eruption was in 1950.

Some important villages of Santorini
:: Fira, 10 km from the main port, Athinaios, Fira has cca. 1.600 constant inhabitants.
:: Karterados, next to Fira south, with a lot of hotels, eateries and shops.
:: Imerovigli & Firostefani, 2 km north from Fira. Actually, it is the extension of Fira but the village is situated on a higher cliff.
:: Oia, 11 km north from Fira, pronounced 'Ia', is world known for its quite life and fantastic sunset and it is obviously the most beautiful and picturesque village of Santorini.
:: Perissa, 8 km south east of Fira, farming village with production and storage of wine.
:: Akrotiri, 8 km south from Fira, next to famous Red beach and the most important archaeological site.
:: Pyrgos, 4.5 km south east of Fira, there are tavernas, and the usual tourist style shops.
:: Mesa & Exo Gonia, 8 km south east of Fira, farming villages with production of wine.
:: Emporio, South part of the island; with old windmills on the hillside.

PICKING UP WOMEN

by DAO

NO. This is not a dating tip. For some reason, after a lot of beer, I thought it would be funny to pick up some ladies. I mean physically pick them up. I think they drank a lot of beer too as they thought this was as funny as I did. Oh well. You have to have fun don't you?

PLEASE KEEP SANTORINI CLEAN !

by DAO

Santorini is beautiful and clean. Let’s keep it that way! There are proper receptacles everywhere. Call them ‘trash cans’ or ‘rubbish bins’ – it does not matter. Put it in. And if you cannot fine one, put it in your bag or pocket and wait to you get somewhere. They even have places to collect your waste on the volcano (pictured). On a boat? Of course they have them as well. I know and appreciate that some locals throw it on the road and even in unused church yards. There are idiots who live where I do as well. Do you really want to be like them? Of course not.

Do not even think about throwing it in the toilet! Greek plumbing is not good an you do not want to explain to a boat or building full of people why their toilet no longer works.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Tour - See Santorini In One Day

by Mikebb

For those who do not want to hire a car you can still see the island you can take a day tour.

I saw this sign in Fira and for 35 Euros I thought it would be a good deal.

We hired a car for the day..

Art and Jewelry

by soccergrrl about Any in Oia

All along the main "street" (pedestrian lane) in Oia, there are shops. Some are full of typical tourist trinkets -- T-shirts, magnets, hats, and postcards. But most are full of lovely local (or at least Greek) art and jewelry. If you can, avoid shopping at mid-day when the crowds from the cruise ships throng the narrow lane. There are creative gold and silver earrings, carvings from Greek marble and Santorini volcanic rock, paintings and photographs from Greek artists. There seemed to be items in every price range.
