getting away from it all...
Karpathos lies directly between Crete and Rhodes. Its the larger of the two islands in that section of the Med.
It was Italian until 1948!
I'd been to Crete several times and loved it (out of the way places like Sfakia and Sitia, not the developed places like Ag Nik and the ones on the "strip" east of Iraklion).
Felt like a change, so got flights to Rhodes. I HATED it - overdeveloped and overpriced!
Had to escape and looked at the options. Saw a ferry to Karpathos leaving the next day, and (knowing nothing about it) decided it had to be better!
Fortune rewards the brave - it was everything Rhodes was not! Wonderfully unspoilt and quiet.
Hope it still is.
See transportation tips for getting there (and back, if necssary)
My photos for this trip have gone missing - oh well - at least I can't blame the PC. Anyhow, the one I've used are courtesy of the Greek Tourism organisation (that explains the quality!)
