Bodrum, Kos, Patmos ferries

by dulcieanderson

We wish to visit Patmos and want to know if this can be done by leaving Bodrum by hydrofoil to Kos and on to Patmos, stay overnight and return from Patmos to Izmir - what route would we have to take and can we do this whole trip in three days in October 2010?

You can find information on Turkey-Greek ferries here;

http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/trans/Ship/GreekIslandFerries.html

and here:

http://www.feribot.net/feribot/?partnerid=Mzg=&lang=en

However, you will note that the information about frequency is only to the end of September. You will need to check timings for October.

You can check info for the Kos>Patmos segment here:

http://www.ferries.gr/booking/

I cannot see a ferry from Patmos to Izmir, although I have not looked in any detail.

Re: Bodrum, Kos, Patmos ferries

Doubt if you would make that in three days, 4 days maybe, in October and have any time on Patmos.

Too many different ferries involved, and by October are reduced somewhat.
1) Bodrum > Kos, ferry maybe 1-2 times per day morn/aft.
2) Kos > Patmos, ferry/catamaran maybe 1 per day.
3) Patmos > Samos(Pythagorio), ferry/hydrofoil maybe 1 every 1-2 days.
4) Samos(Vathy) > Turkey(Kusadasi).
5) Kusadasi > Izmir, Bus.

You would probably end up with 1 night on Kos, Patmos, and Samos.

With 3) it may be a ferry every 2 days, so possibly a bit easier to reverse the route, then Bodrum > Izmir but rather boring re-tracing of steps.

The latest ferry information is best got whilst in the ports involved.

Travel Tips for Kos

Eleftherias Square

by Helga67

Eleftherias Square lies in the old town and close to the harbour. It's a bustling square with cafes, a museum, the municipal market and the Defterdar mosque. Around are many streets with mainly souvenir shops.

Very Nice Gyros!

by desertgecko about Kapilio Taverna

We went to Kapilio twice, which broke out plan of trying a different restaurant each day. But this was because we liked the food so much!

As with most Taverna's in Kos there are cats and kittens running around. I fell in love with Teddy! A little kitten which the women (owner of Kapilio I believe) had adopted 4 days before we first went there. Another tourist was cuddling Teddy and then just put him on our table and he immediately curled up in my lap! So cute! The second time we went there we asked after Teddy and the women told us how another women has taken him saying he came to me so he's mine! Hopefully Teddy will go back to Kapilio. We had mixed grills both times we went and the price is very good for what you get. For 10 euros you could order one of their 'Specials' which includes a starter, main meal and dessert - tzatziki, mixed grill, and nescafe. We asked for icecream instead of the coffee which was happily agreed!

The main meal included - gyros meat, burger, steak, pork chop, chicken fillet, salami sauage thing (not really sure what it was) chips, tomatoes and cucumber! YUM!

Oh, you also get the tastiest warm bread with garlic butter to go with your meal!

TIGAKI BEACH

by balhannah

Tigaki Beach is the nearest Beach to Kos. It has a long sandy beach and shallow waters. Umbrellas and Sun beds are available, as well as water sport equpiment. Everything you need is here......Accommodation, Cafes & Restaurants, Bars and shops and MORE.......

To reach here, you can catch one of the 10 daily Buses that come here from the Bus Station in Kleopatras Street.

Quiet Corners

by steventilly

You find quiet and picturesque corners all around town. These are usually just normal everyday homes of normal everyday people. This low cottage was close to the Western Excavations - I loved the flowers growing from old oil cans, something we saw in a few places around the island.
