KOS The city
by LysDor
The city of Kos, the capital and the chief port of the island, is on the north- east coast (look where the pink shades are ;->), very near to the shores of Turkey.
It is a small and most attractive city, rebuilt after the 1933 earthquake.
South of the Venetian castle of the Knights of St John a bridge, crossing over the beautiful Avenue of Palms, links the castle with the famous plane tree of Hippocrates.
Mopeds and Bikes
by sandysmith
Again, as in Rhodes, mopeds are a very popular way of getting around. Hardly anyone on one of these wore a helmet, despite spot checks being made.
The town is compact and bicycle hire was also popular - a better option I think, especially for the short ride out to Asklepieion.
Cost is about 3 euros per day for bicycle hire.
Kos Tourism Office
by grayfo
The Municipal Tourist Information Office is situated on the seafront, on the Vasileos Georgiou, next to the Atki Miaouli. Inside are the usual town maps and guides in several languages.

Minaret
by steventilly
This lonesome, orphaned minaret stands on Diagora square and serves as a good guidepost. The minaret marks the edge of The Western Excavations - head down the narrow alleyway beside the minaret and you'll find the excavations at the bottom (right). Across the road is the Odeon and a little down the road to the left is the Casa Romano and Temple of Dionysos
Kos

The small (290km²) but beautiful island of Kos lies in the southeast of the Agean Sea, just a stone's throw away from the Turkish coast. The island has about 20,000 inhabitants and belongs to Greece since 1947. Before this time Kos was occupied by the Romans, Venecians, Italians and the Turkish. The capital of the island is Kos City which is located in the northeast as you can see on the map. The city has about 11,000 inhabitants and is famous for the so-called "Asklepieion", as well as for Hippokrates a doctor who was born there. The tree under which it's said he taught does still exist, it's located at Platía Platanou.
The following is the Asklepieion which lies just outside of Kos City on a small hill.
And now some more pictures I took in Kos City
The harbor
From there you can already see the Turkish coast. If you'd like to spend a day in Turkey it's no problem at all, there are ships running between Kos City and Bodrum/Turkey.
And now some pictures of my favorite beach, the one in Marmari in the north of the island
The following pictures were taken in the inland of Kos
Kefalos is also worth a visit!
