Defterdar Mosque

A remarkable building on the Eleftheria Square is the18th century Defterdar Mosque. It is still used by the 50 Muslim families mostly living in the nearby Platani town. It is not open to the public. In front of the mosque is a lovely cafe.
Bodrum Hydrofoil and others

The Bodrum Hydrofoil is the quickest means of travelling between Kos and Bodrum - taking about 20 minutes whereas the ferry takes about 60 minutes. Cost is just 10 euros .
There are also daily connections to Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos, Piraeus (Athens) and Rhodes.
Connections to - Symi, Chio, Mytilini, Alexandroupolis, Halki, Diafani, Karpatho, Kasso, Irakleion, Kastelorizo, Limno, Nysiro, Tilo, Astypalea, Lipsi, Thessaloniki, Paro, Naxo, Syro, Amorgo and Mykono are availbale once or twice a week: Its best to check with the individual ship companies as none like to give out info about each other!
Entering the Town

If not going to the tourist office take a left turn under the stone bridge and into Palm tree Avenue and then you will soon be in the centr of town. This stone bridge crosses from Platea Platanou (where Hipprocates plane tree is), over the former moat to the castle entrance.
Flowers

Flowers are everywhere in Kos. It's know as The Hibiscus Island but it's not just hibiscus that you'll find, there's bougainvillea, convolvolus, pelargonium and a host of others that I don't even know the name of all over the town. This colourful display is at the top of the street mentioned in the previous tip.
The `Plan-tree of Hippocrates`

This tree is support by a steel frame. According to the legend this tree is more then 2400 years old.
It`s trunk has a circumference of approx imately twelve meter, and according to tradition it was under this tree that Hippocrates taught medicine to his students.

Next to the `Platanos`, there is an ancient Sarcophagus, which during the Turkish occupation was used as a water trough for the nearby Mosque
