Swimming Pool in Mastihari village

by mattwilluk

My girlfriend and I are planning to visit Mastihari next May. We have seen numerous photos of the beach, apartments and tavernas and think it looks lovely. We would be staying in one of the small apartments on the beach front and obviously it wouldn't have a swimming pool. I understand the village has a pool, but we can't find any photos of it. Has anyone spent time at the village pool? What's it like? Does anyone have a photo?

I have been back and forth to Mastihari for 14 years and I am sure you won't be disappointed. The beach is the main feature of the village, as almost all of the rooms and apartments don't have pools. There is a pool in The Half Time Bar about 5 mins walk from the beach, it's just past the church on the left if you're walking away from the harbour. The pool and sun loungers are free to use and the bar does good food and will bring your drinks out to you as you are lying round the pool. However, the pool itself is small and very basic but is kept clean. I don't have a photo but just imagine a rectangular pool about 6m x 5m. Personally I recommend the fantastic beach and great tavernas and bars on the beach front!

Thank you very much for your reply. It sounds great! My girlfriend and are are actually planning to get married out there in May, so it all sounds perfect.

Can I ask where you'll actually be getting married? And where you'll be staying?

We will be staying in one of the beachfront apartments. We haven't decided which one yet; we are bringing a lot of family with us and we need to make sure we all get the kind of place we want. We will be getting married in Antimachia which looks lovely.

I hope the wedding plans go well. I do know someone in the village who has organised weddings before - she has a restaurant and some rooms on the beach front - if you are looking for some help!!
There are some nice rooms along the beach front and generally they are of the same standard - a twin room is usually with 2 single beds, an ensuite and a table on the balcony. They are not 5* rooms but are clean and tidy - but being a small Greek village you probably already guessed that!!!

Thank you for your best wishes and the offer of help. We actually already have someone who is organising flights, accomodation and the wedding for us. However, I imagine we will have more questions about Masthari nearer the time. Would you mind if we contacted you in the future if we do need any help? Drop me a line at mattwilliamsuk@yahoo.co.uk. Thanks!

Feel free to ask any questions you like - I know Mastihari inside out and will be happy to help if I can!!!

Travel Tips for Kos

"Plaka" Pure nature and grilling fun!

by hellas_nici

Plaka is a small forest where you can go for a walk and watch the colourful peacocks walking with you. For nature and animal lovers realy a place to go.
At weekends this area becomes a grilling place for natives where you can meet with others and have fun.

You'll find it about 4km north-west from Antimachia.

Promenade

by steventilly

The harbour promenade as seen from the battlements of the castle. As you can see there are lots of shady palm trees and across the road the some fine municipal buildings from the Italian era. From in front of those buildings is where the mini-train that does the city tour leaves, as well as the "town busses" that run between Lambi and Psaladi and beyond. The ticket and information office for these busses is in the white building.
At the bottom right of the picture the promenade follows the old castle moat along the bottom of the castle walls and leads to the ferry & cruise liner terminal.

Kos Church - Agia Paraskevi

by sandysmith

The Church of Agia Paraskevi dominates the central square of Kos town. Its huge and painted beige and blue and has a richly decorated interior. The courtyard outside has a lovely pebbled mosaic too. Pictured here are some frescos over the doorway of the church - I needed a wide-angle for all of it!

Kos Island

by marybellone

"The Most "Tropical looking" Island"

We were on the side of the island by Kos marina. A lot of charted sailing trips go out of this part of the island which is why we were there. This island is pretty far south and is very close to Turkey. You can actually see Turkey from this part of the island.

"View of hotels overlooking Kos harbor"

The water here is picture perfect. There are many hotels like this that are right on the water.

We got an even better view of the island from the boat that we were on. From here you can see hte mountains in the back.
