Villa Zacharo Hotel: Central Family Hotel

We chose the 2 star rated Villa Zacharo Hotel due to another tip on VT and we were not disappointed.
Although only a 100 metres from the port (on the main road leading up to the monastery) Jacob the friendly owner will greet you at the harbour as your boat arrives. Rooms are basic Greek standard but includes a handy small fridge, air conditioning (not needed in Oct), balcony and en-suite facilities. Some rooms have a view to the monastery. Breakfast is an extra 5 euros, although coffee and biscuits are free and can be enjoyed on the outside patio or indoors. We opted not to have breakfast - there is a handy supermarket next door where we bought fruit and yogurt.
We negotiated a low season rate of 90 euros for a double room for 3 nights - check the website for more info and current prices.

Unique Quality: Jacob and his wife made us most welcome from the moment he picked us up at midnight - our late night arrival on the Blue Star Ferry from Kos. We were the only other guests staying apart from 2 friends who were visiting from Athens. Breakfast the following morning he kindly gave us lots of info about the island and then took us up to the cave and monastery with his friends in his car for a personal tour and explained about the various things we saw- how kind was that! Nothing was took much trouble even checking boat trip options for us. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Mathios Studios in Sapsila Bay: A special place on Patmos island

Mathios Studios and Apartments was so tastefully and personally decorated that it felt like a home, and we loved our large balcony with privacy, that overlooked the Bay of Sapsila. The perfect place for a cup of coffee in the morning or an ouzo in the evening. There was a nice kitchen with all the things that you could possibly need, the beds were top, and there was a large bathroom with a good hot shower and plenty of towels. The house was sort of standing apart from other buildings and away from the traffic and the noise.

Unique Quality: The best was Mathios secret beach that you can get to through the garden. It is set off the road and it's lovely: the nicest little beach we have seen on the island of Patmos, and we never saw anybody when we were there. We found the peace and quiet that we are looking for and at the same time were not too far from the Skala. All apartments and studios have a seaview and in front there is a nice garden with flowers and with Jakoumina's vegetable plot. It was a great place to relax.
