Haraki
by M0B1US
Situated on the east coast of Rhodes in Vlyha Bay and about 10km north of Lindos (you can see the colossal bulk of the acropolis across the bay!) is the picturesque fishing village of Haraki.
It is a lovely and still fairly quiet place to come and it well placed between two of Rhodes' quieter beaches of Agathi and Vlyha, both of which are peaceful and sandy which Agathi being the quieter of the two...
Haraki itself is in a small crescent shaped pebbly bay lined by low key tavernas and apartments, guarded by the ominous bulk of the Castle of Faraklos, which was the last of the Knights' castles to fall to the Turks. If you fancy a quiet place to stay on the eastern coast within easy striking distance of Lindos and Rhodes Town, then come here. Did I mention it has a great seafood restaurant on the waterfront too - actually I did under the restaurant tips! ;-)
Mythos - Greek Beer
by M0B1US
There was a time when it seemed like the only beer you could drink in Greece was the Dutch Amstel - so much so that on one memorable holiday a friend of ours would leave a trail of Amstel empies all round our apartment complex and we would be able to find him by following the trails...!
So it was great to be able to try a genuine Greek (with British help!) beer that has now muscled its way into 2nd place in the Greek market behind - you guessed it - Amstel!
It's a nice drop, being light and easy to drink with a refreshing and sharp, almost Pilsner-like taste. 5% abv too! :-)
Check it out, it's only been around since 1997 - but it looks like it's here to stay!
Plimri Monastery
by sandysmith
On the east coasr of Rhodes we found this remote monastery - a short detour of the main road down to Prasonisi. Bit of a stark white building is the monastery of Zoodohos Pigi (source of life).
It dates from teh 1840's and is built over the ruins of an early Christian church. Notice the classical colums with Corinthinthian capitals in the exterior ogf the monaastery. Rhodes has countless monasteries and chapels - every few miles there seems to be a brown sign indicatring one.
