More about The Ixian Grand

One Of The Best

by TripAdvisor Member mccanna

Just back fro the Ixian Grand Hotel one of the best hoildays i have had from the staff on arrival, to the retuaraunt especially the head waiter, his staff, the cleaners and the excelant annimation team they are number 1. it was clean tidy a good choice of food as i am a very fussy eater. my wife and i were totaly delighted with the service provided and will be recommending it to all friends as we have already. i am already trying to look at booking for next year. even a trip into the old town wich was only 10 mins away was worth the time. i will be sending an e-mail directly to the hotel thanking them for the hospitality. and the way we looked after.

Great value for money

The Ixian Grand is a great hotel in a relatively quiet location within the resort. Be prepared for a shock when you enter your rooms if the only pictures you have seen are on the hotels website – the pictures they show are of the Ixian Suites which cost a fortune to upgrade to should you wish to do so on your arrival. The vast majority of rooms are a little more modest but clean and comfortable.

However, everything else about the hotel was faultless – you must bear in mind that no hotel on the planet is able to satisfy absolutely everyone (especially the moaning Brits). I travelled with my wife arriving there at 3:00am and the check-in was very quick and efficient. We found the whole place exceptionally clean and well maintained and all of the staff very helpful and alert to your needs. The restaurant was light and airy and the food was good. My wife is a very fussy eater but she always managed to fill her plate at mealtimes. We ate late on most evenings and were pleased to see that the food was always fresh, with fresh portions being brought from the kitchen up to 5 minutes before the restaurant closed. The snack bar was a little disappointing in that the only food available at non-mealtimes appeared to be leftovers from the previous meal but the drinks were self service and there was always plenty of clean glasses. Despite the hotel being pretty full the main lobby bar was never really busy, we did have to queue for drinks but the longest we waited was around 2 minutes to be served at the busiest times – the good thing about the queue system is that everyone does get served in the order the arrive at the bar which worked really well.

The pool area was very nice and well kept, we spent quite some time on the decking overlooking the Aegean sipping cool drinks and chatting with other guests. You have to be up at the crack of dawn to bag a lounger which was the only downside to our stay – we typically made it down with our towels for about 8:00am and only had a small number to choose from. Beware of the miserable caretaker/pool attendant bloke, he never cracks a smile and just grunts at people all day long – we had a good laugh with the bar staff about him but overall, he works long hours and keeps the place looking great.

We booked with Olympic and had a fantasic rep, a young guy named Jeff. We had a couple of issues which needed resolving and he dealt with them immediately and to our total satisfaction. Just down the road towards the centre of the resort we watched the England World Cup games in a bar called Fatman Slims – they were a great bunch and looked after everyone well – would recommend the place for a drink and the food was also excellent.

Overall, out holiday was excellent and we would have no hesitation in returning the Ixian Grand should we decide to visit the island again in the future.

June 10th - 24th June.
After reading preavious reports on the Ixian Grand, I must admit we had our concerns, but we were pleasantly suprised.

The shingle beach only goes about two metres and then is all sand so go and enjoy a swim as i only found out about the nice sandy bottom on the last day.
The Ixian Grand is spotlessly clean, furnishings very nice and well kept but in the main hotel is still being upgraded gradually. The cleaning team, restaurant & bar staff are second to none. The restaurant & pool snack area were
constantly being cleaned. The staff work very, very hard and are always polite. So please leave the odd euro as they deserve it.

The Entertainment Team work all day long.
They try to get everyone to join in but are not bothered if you don,t and just get about there job.Worth watching is the glass walking and nail bed act done by Willy off the entertainment team.
The Hotel is still being updated and there were a few minor problems with some of the tiles around one of the pools. These should be sorted by now.
We all managed to get fed every mealtime even though some of the party were fussy
eaters, all food was well cooked but not redhot. But that seems to be the same on buffet style meals.

My daughter got married the second week there at the Filermos Monestery which was very nice but way to hot for our party so be warned dress accordingly on the day and take a small bottle of water with you.
Also wear suitable shoes as there is quite alot of walking. After the wedding we had the reception at Alexandros Resaurant on the main road in Ixia not the beach side.

We had been to look around and get the menus available and the prices. George the Boss is very helpful and gave us a great deal on both meal and all the drinks on the day so you don,t have to worry about anymore expense on the night unless you want to leave a tip which we did as we had drunk much more than the price we had payed for drinks so felt obliged as he has to make a living. The food was fanastic as was the table settings, the staff so friendly and up for a laugh. And to Georges word we could have stopped till 1am drinking but had all had enough by 11pm as we arrived there at 4.45pm. We all ended up going back for another meal as it had been that good and the secound time did not dissapoint anyone.
So we recomend you try the restaurant and see for yourselves.
If you like Indian food then the RAJ restaurant in Faliraki is the place to go as it out shone alot of indian restaurants in england for the meal quaility. It is situated behind the sling shot ride at the bottom of the main street were all the bars are. 16 euros if ordering taxi from hotel and 15 euros back from taxi rank.
All Taxi fares are set with no difference after midnight but you get charged 1 euro extra if you book or flag down a taxi.

The only problem we had on our stay was the mosquitoe bites we all tried repelents and after bite products but all suffered.
So be prepared ,the suntan lotion p20 seamed to keep them away but miss a day and you got bit.

All in all we had a fabulous time with the wedding and the holiday.

FUN RELAXING HOTEL

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Ixian Grand is one of the better 'all inclusive' hotels we've stayed at but unfortunately is only on a par with other 3-4* I don't know why its rated 5* probably because of the opulent looking lounge and reception area but as with any other recently renovated hotel there are a few teething problems.
Firstly don't pay extra for a superior family room as superior it definately is not, basically the 'second' bedroom/living area is a windowless, airless room with a bed settee in it and nothing else. There is no natural light or air and the air condtioning was only adequate. We spent one night in one of these rooms before complaining and being moved to a more suitable 'family' room which was one of the corner suites, these are more expensive but are the only way you'll retain your sanity if you're travelling with more than one child (we had two).
The food was excellent and was plentiful and always fresh and the restaurant staff were always friendly and helpful.
The bar as mentioned in other reviews always had a queue so obviously needs more staff and you certainly won't get drunk on the alcoholic drinks!
As with most 'all inclusives' the hotel is a short walk away from civilisation and the hotel would benefit from a cashpoint machine (nearest one very rarely worked) and also international payphones (apparently you can use the one in your room at extortionate hotel rates but we didnt have one!)
On the good side the animation team are excellent, Eliza is fabulous (and also beautiful) your kids will love her and won't want to leave without her!! The evening shows are fun and professional and Willy, Blaze, Ivana, Mati and Gino couldn't be a better team they work so well together.
All in all a few hiccups but would go back again and didnt want to leave will be booking again for next year asap.

A great stay - don't know why negative comments made

My wife and I spent half term in the Izian Grand (end of May-June 06). We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby area is spacious and cool; the bar staff are friendly and attentive; the receptionists were helpful and all went smoothly. We stayed in room 283 which is in the Garden Wing and our balcony overlooked the tennis court (through the trees) but also, from the side of the balcony the Garden Pool towards the main block. It was a great setting as we could watch the entertainment in the evenings from our balcony!

When we arrived at 3.00am, we were received quickly and efficiently. Our key and all-inclusive cards were already made out and we spent very little time checking in - thankfully at that time in the morning! I have to say that we booked independently and were not part of a package. However, from what I could see, even when package tourists checked in, it was quite efficently done.

Our room was excellent apart from the bath plug which we could not remove as the mechanics had broken. However, having reported it, the plug was removed the next morning. Air conditioning was effective and the beds comfortable.

The pools are splendid. Such choice with three pools and even when children were playing, it did not bother us with noise as there is so much space. The sunbeds are plentiful and not "bagged" too early! The great thing is that there is plenty of space between the beds. Other hotels we saw around has cramped tiers of sunbeds wherre you were on top of one another. Plenty of space at the Ixian!

As far as the food goes, this was 4* rather than 5*. The main dining room was OK and the food was OK but not special. However, friendly service and plenty to choose from. We had our free meal in the A La Carte Restaurant which was lovely. However, it's Table d'Hote rather than A la carte! Stiilll - lovely surroundings and service.

We didn't go for any of the hotel organised trips etc. A good tip is to use the travel agent on the main road (left at the junction by the newagent) who do boat trips to Lindos for €20 including a pick up and return to the hotel on Thursdays and saturdays. The package tour people were charging €38 for the same trip!

The sea was lovely and, of course, the beach is just outside the hotel - no crossing busy roads! there is a bus stop into Rodos across the main road from the newsagents.

All in all, we had a lovely relaxing holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality the hotel had to offer. If you want genuine 5* then you may be disappointed because it is 4* really. Certainly the best hotel and setting that I saw while we were in Rhodes.

Fantastic Value

by TripAdvisor Member nats312

Stayed here early June and have to say I was well impressed, travelled with a family of 4 and parents, so aging from 8 - 58, it was great, can't fault the hotel at all, very clean and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. In fact my parents have already booked to return in October!! The facilities were great, and the children were never bored. The food was great, a wide variety, all buffet style but great selection and of very good quality. The drinks were also good, loved the beach bar. The Entertainment staff were very amusing and excellent for involving people, and also very diplomatic when people weren't at all interested. I found this hotel very good value for money and would definately recommend it. I certainly will be returning.

Dear Sir We have just had two great weeks at the Ixiangrand which was from the 21June to the 5 july 2006.It was one of the best holidays we have had for a long time.
We found that the staff in all he areas of the hotel from the cleaners to the head waiter were always very pleasent.Nothing was ever to much trouble for them.
The food was great there was so much you could choose from, and you could eat as much as you can.

Thanks Again,

A WONDERFULL HOTEL

by TripAdvisor Member mawie

Don't let the negative reviews spoil your holiday, this is simply a wonderfull hotel, the food is great and very tasty presented, the staff are very nice and helpfull, the rooms are great and the location is waaw, and no you do not have to wait 2 minutes for a drink at the bar !!!

The bottom line is this is a 3 star hotel with 2 star rooms. Reception staff are rude and unhelpful. Not typical of Rhodes. This a short and sour report

West coast accomodation

by InglBarnett

Hello,
My boyfriend and I are coming to Rhodes in July to kitesurf, visit the island & sleep off the stress of the city. Does anyoneone know where we can find an appartment, B&B, small hotel on the west coast (far enough South not to be in the line of the airport)?
Up in the hills would also be great.
Thank you, Claire

If you intend doing a lot of wind or sand surf maybe Prasonnissi will be your best option - although there are other areas o the island which have some facilities the best is there on the tip of the island where the med meets the aegean - its a small area with a few apartments but is accessible if you intend to hire a car - rhodes town to prasonissi takes about an hour -( i think ) check with one of the members who live of the island for more ideas

have fun
I love Rhodes

Re: West coast accomodation

there are some B&B places in kameiros skala, which is a lovely location, half way down the west coast.

I have a video on youtube called rhodes west coast. you will see kritinia castle, whci is close by and a couple of outstanding fish restaurants. There is a lovely little cove just south of the fishing harbour. clearest water and best snorkelling I found anywhere in rhodes.

Re: West coast accomodation

by kbr61263

for kitesurfing though, you need to be at prsonnissi (as mentioned above) also on the video..

Re: West coast accomodation

if you would like to try a place up in the hills, Try Siana. its famous for honey. its a calm and sleepy place, seems quite like its frozen in time. I guess if you are prepared to trvale and stop in different places it would be worth considering for one night.

this map shows where the beaches and towns are

it DOESNT have the beach marked at kameiros skala (skala kamirou)
