English tourists in Rodos

by RALEONE

What about English tourists in Rodos?

Re: English tourists in Rodos

by MrBill

They're annoying, but not illegal. I am not sure of the legal limit, but so long as you're only bringing them along for personal consumption, it will probably be alright? There are lots of them in Cyprus, so supply shouldn't be a concern. Do not overfeed them, or give them too much to drink. Don't talk about football or Euro2004 in any case. Good luck with them. Cheers. Bill.

I agree with most of the above, apart from the football advice. Remind them of their defeat as often as possible, because they're still reminding everyone they won the World Cup in 1966.

Apart from that, nothing at all wrong with the English, tourists or otherwise.

Last year there were troubles with specific British hooligan youngster groups brought by an Agency promising that in Greece you can do whatever you want. In two cases some of them were arrested and brought to the court for killing one of their buddies and for dancing naked in the streets. In both cases they were blind drunk.
This year I didn't hear anything about troubles.

I think this year Greece was spared because the British hooligans were blind drunk, dancing in the streets in Portugal, at least up until they got eliminated from Euro2004.

As for killing their buddies, that would have been in Agia Napa this summer already. Drink all day together, have an argument, stab one another to death. Great summer vacation.

Thank goodness only a small minority, of course.

All groups of foreign nationals can be loud, if they are in large groups together, and fuelled by enough alcohol. Of course, some groups are more prone to seek out these conditions under their own volition.

Cheers.

Travel Tips for Rodos (City)

Ipoton Street.

by Maurizioago

Ipoton Street, or the Street of the Knights is about 600 meters long. Here, on the right and on the left side you can see the inns belonged to the Knights. These were used as gathering places and temporary residences for visiting dignitaries.

Today the inns are used as government offices.

Mosque Tzami Tou Mourad Reis

by sandysmith

The turks were ousted from Rhodes in 1912 but remnants of their occupation remain and can be discovered both in the New Town and the Old Town areas. At the north end of the new town -just near our hotel -is the mosque of Tzami Tou Mourad Reis with its slender white minaret. Its adjacent cemetry is quiet and rarely visited but it fascinated me...see next tip.

Small boats to be rent in the harbour of Rhodes

by Fam.Rauca

At the coast of the Harbour of Rhodes, there are a large number of small boats to be rent for trips on the sea.

You can negotiate the price for the trip directly with the owner of the boat.

When you have a boat driving license, you can rent the boat without personnel, and when not, then the boat posses its own equipage.

The Bay Of Anthony Quinn

by RoyJava

The small, Anthony Quinn bay has crystal, clear waters and rocky surroundings and is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Rhodos island. The original name though is "VAGIES BAY"; a better one, as you can see on the pic. A jetty has been placed for small craft to moor, while many sailing boats drop anchor some further out, beyond the swimmers.

Actor Anthony Quinn acted in "Guns of Navarone" here, fell in love with its miniature romantic bay, and appropriated himself the area with sharp rocks. Only in July and August the place is visited, especially by Italians, when the water will be warm enough ...

So you can imagine how freezing the model got after a while standing and posing in the water ...

Medieval windmills

by himalia11

On the old mole east of the Mandraki Harbour, you'll see three windmills from the 14th century. I wouldn't have recognized them as mills, though, as the wings are missing. On the right, you'll see fort Agios Nikolaos, and the mountains in the background are already Turkish. The building on the left with the dome is Nea Agora, the New Market, where you'll find several restaurants.
