Elousa

by philjt51

Has any one got any information on the village of Eloussa which is near Profita Illias it has a church which is still in use and some derelict buildings either side, I think one was used for a sanatarium by the Italians in the last war.
thankyou in anticipation
best wishes
Phil

This place was in the travel guide I took on my trip but I never got there. Kritinia castle is great, try that (near kameiros skala)

I have visited there several times and it is a really nice place, this year am hoping to visit Mussolins house which is not far from there so I have read. I have some pics on webshots I think of the buildings. look at webshots.com then for pics by iansheff. I also found a website with computer enhanced images of the sanatorium, will send the link when I find it.

Travel Tips for Rodos (City)

Beautiful Ladiko Beach

by RoyJava

On the way to Ladiko Beach this is what most tourists might miss early in the morning! A fashion model just set on curls ... and the fashion crew packing their stuff. And we got lucky. The Ladiko Beach is just a tiny cove but with everything you could possibly want. Fine sand, small rocks, sun beds, umbrellas, water showers and a fish Greek Taverna.

Very popular with Italians and Greeks, especially in August when it comes very crowded. In recent years actually, the sun beds have spread over to the opposite shore with rocks, ideal for those looking for some peace and quiet. A very satisfying spot!

Cobs of corn on the grill, in Rhodes City

by Fam.Rauca

This is a very delightful product to buy and to eat, in the summer days, on the island of Rhodes.

This is a tradition and a pleasure for the tourist.

Unfortunately, the price of this product is not very favourable.

The ambulant sellers make their commerce on the coast of the sea, or on the streets of the city.

Mythos - the best of Greece

by sigthor_egle

Mythos is very very good greek beer and I recommend for you to drink it all the time :) It's 5% lager beer, and was first introduced in 1997. It has won some awards for the quality and it is expored to USA, Canada and some other countries. Don't be afraid to try some other than your favourite beer.
Small bottle is usually about 2 euros, big one 3 euros in a taverna, in the old town they may ask you 5 euros per big bottle. In mini markets, you can have a big bottle for 0,9 euros.

Mandráki Harbour, Elafos and Elafia

by himalia11

This harbour was build 408 BC together with the town. In former times, warships were here as it was the military port of old Rhodes. Nowadays, you'll see lots of yachts and excursions boats. There's a larger harbour close to it where the cruise ships and ferries stop.

At the entry of the harbour, there probably has been the famous Colossus of Rhodes (one of the Seven Wonders of the world). But there are discussions where it really was located and how high it was (and perhaps the Colossus is only a legend...). Today, at the entry of the harbour, you find two pillars with "Elafos" and "Elafia", stag and hind, the heraldic animals of Rhodes. In the background on the photo, you see the fort Agios Nikolaos.
