Seeing all the sights in Rodos!
by balhannah
Other people have heaps on tips and photos on Rodos, so I am not going to add more.
I will say, that I think the best way to make sure that YOU DO NOT MISS THE MAIN SIGHTS, is to buy a map from the tourist information centre or from one of the Shops. The one I bought had all the main sites numbered, so I didn't miss any. Then, I just explored the laneways and found some delightful places for photo opportunities. This city is one that is best explored on foot.
The map cost me 1 euro.
LINDOS
by LysDor
Our guide-friend Mari took us to see Lindos. It's located 47 KM from Rodos and is sure worth a visit!
Lindos was the original capital of the island.
The famous Acropolis of Lindos is the most well known of all ancient sites in the Dodekanese and can be as crowded as the Acropolis of Athens sometimes!
Monte Smith - Temple Of Zeus & Athena
by steventilly
Monte Smith is a hill some 111m above the town of Rhodes. We walked up to it from Rodini park, cutting through some nice resedential areas on the way.
At the top you can get great views down to the coast above Ixia & the resort part of Rhodes Town, but the main reason for coming here are the ancient remains of the old acropolis of Rhodes.
Shown here are the three remaining columns of the temple of Zeus and Athena. These were re-erected by the Italians, who excavated this whole site, along with many other sites on Rhodes. Generally they paid more regard to speed than to careful excavation, and their reconstructions are often described as "haphazard". Still looks nice tho ;-)
Snorkeling/swimming

Rodos is great for snorkeling and swimming. Maybe not too much to see but warm and clear water. The east side is calm, while the west side is windy and colder.
My favourite place was Kalithea just south of Rodos City.
VIA DOLOROSA on MOUNT FILERIMOS
by balhannah
Mount Filerimos, the site of the ancient Acropolis of Ialysos as well as the magnificent Monastery of the Holy Virgin.
Here is also situated the recreation of the Via Dolorosa, the path and the stations of Jesus Christ to the Cross which finishes at the 50-feet high cross that overlooks the entire North-West coast of Rhodes island.
You can climb up inside the Cross for wonderful views from the top, only if you are energetic!!!!
