Auberge Du Val Hotel: The Inn in the Valley
The Auberge Du Val hotel was not really my first choice of accommodation on Guernsey. As with Jersey, we had not intended bringing our car, and were going to rely on the bus services for transportation. I found that there appeared to be limited accommodation for the price which we intended to pay, and the other accommodations - mainly in St Peter Port - were not able to accommodate us for our full period of visit. And, again, like Jersey, we eventually decided that we had perhaps made the better of choices, away from the main town where parking would have been an issue. (So do ensure you inquire about parking if taking or hiring a car!!).
Actually, as the Hotel is a very popular Restaurant, car parking can be a bit of a problem for guests if you come back in the early evening. However, there is a grassy field adjacent, where cars can easily be parked should the Hotel's car park be full (which it was during our stay).
We had opted for Bed and Breakfast accommodation, but the restaurant is open to visitors and non-residents from Tuesdays to Saturdays, although the bar, I think, is open every evening.
The Proprietor, Fernando, is a pleasant man, who ensures that his guests are well looked after, and we have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation.
Not exactly a Unique Quality, but do be aware that the St Saviour's Church clock chimes each quarter and the hours day and night! The first night we stayed we were not used to the chimes, but you do actually quickly adapt to them. It's quite a mellow tone, and does save you wondering what time it is during the darkness of the early morning!
After the brightness of our accommodation in Jersey, due to the street lights, our room was plunged into darkness when we turned the lights off! the Hotel is, of course, in a valley and surrounded by trees! My wife does not like the dark, so if you are a person who likes a bit of light in your room, please take some sort of night light (not candles of course!) with you.
One last thing. The bus from St Peter Port does stop right outside the Hotel, but ring the bell! It does only travel in a clock-wise direction, although the road is two-way.

Wayside Cheer Hotel: Best Family Hotel in Guernsey
Having just spent 3 nights at The Wayside Cheer on a business trip i have booked a week with my family for the summer,
Staff are terrific, as is the food and the whole experience,
Played Bar Biilliards for the first time in 20 years and had some great nights in the Bar.
Location is great and will make a change from our usual trips to the Majorca or tenerife, with the exchange rates as they are it seems a good time to sample the Island of Guernsey where at least a pound is still a pound.
I would reccommend this Hotel for everyone except possibly young singles and its more a traditional family hotel, and the entertainment is more for the older generations.
see you all in July
Beach just across the road
Parking onsite & close by
Bus Stops Close by
Wonderful coastal walks
Staff very friendly
Rooms very comfortable, clean and newly refurbished
Great Bar Entertainment
