 | Art'otel Budapest, by Park Plaza: Priceline in Budapest-great hotel!

I took my chances with Priceline in Budapest and ended up with the Art 'otel for $70US + taxes. I was extremely happy about both the rate and the hotel. It was ideally situated on the Buda side of the Danube River with a view of Parliament. We got a 2nd floor room overlooking the Danube, if you are paying full price, ask for a room on the higher floors as there are trees obstructing the view from the lower floors. There was a business center with free internet on one computer, the sign said 30 minutes free but they didn't ask for your room number. People were generally quick about using it if there was a line.
Room-this is a newer hotel and as the hotel name implies, designed in an arty fashion. The furniture was Scandanavian, the carpet had a design with sewing things such as buttons, safety pins and thread. It was extremely clean. The room had a minibar/refrigerator, in room safe, air conditioning. The bed was on the soft side and the pillows were comfortable. Bathroom-hair dryer, soft big towels, Neutrogena soap and shampoo, body wash in a wall dispenser, good water pressure and lots of hot water. Breakfast-included in the rate even with Priceline, the excellent buffet included eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, pastries, juice, coffee/tea, meats, cheeses. You could eat inside or outside on the terrace if you could find a spot. Local transport-within 5 minutes of the Batthyany Ter metro/bus stop, there was also trams 19 and 41 that stopped right across from the hotel. Restaurants-several close by, I'll find the names shortly Desk staff-very helpful with directions, booked our return minivan, very pleasant

Donald Sultan's Artwork Overlooks Dinner Guests by dcwizard Before I moved to Budapest, I would travel here frequently on business. In September 2002 I had a reservation to stay at the famous Gellert. Unfortunately, a pipe had exploded, so the hotel had to find me another place to stay. I stayed at the Art'otel and loved it so much, I chose it every subsequent trip. Our company also held a conference there for 50 people, and everyone agreed the hotel is a real treat.
The Art'otel is part of a chain of "boutique" or "design" hotels, some of which (including the one in Budapest) are owned by Park Plaza Hotels. Some people are getting tired of the design hotel concept, but for me, staying in a hotel that is unique in decor while at the same time offering the other amenities that one expects from a good hotel (service, location, etc.) is always a better option. (But being a unique design hotel is never an excuse to lack in other areas!) Yes this hotel is a chain and uses a formula becoming ubiquitous, but the daring interior (the exterior is rather bland) based on the modern minimalist art of American artist Donald Sultan is a joy to see. This is not just viewing art like in a gallery -- this is surrounding yourself with and living in art. Even if for just a short time! You can use Metro Line #2 (Red) to Batthany ter, and walk a couple of blocks south, or take tram 19 a couple of stops.Website: www.artotel.de

Inside the artwork... more pix in the travelogue! by Djinn76 We couldn't dream of a better accomodation in Budapest; this hotel designed by Donald Sultan is like an Art gallery, you can find art work everywhere, the design itself is something you wouldn't find anywhere else... Simply nothing to say about the comfort, air-conditionning is a must during summertime. This is not one of this ugly "hotel-big-tower" but several smaller house put together... Even more this is ideally located, on the banks of the river danube, opposite the parliament building, close to the buda castle district. One more thing, this hotel looks bloody expensive but if you can get one of their promotions, the prices are easily cut in half!
Be aware there is also a "Bw Hotel Art Hotel" in Budapest, this a totally different hotel but that could cause some confusion for the Taxi or the minibus at the airport if you simply ask for the "Art'Otel"...

 | Art'otel Budapest, by Park Plaza: Art'Otel - a bit outdated, but comfortable enough

This hotel has some pretty good deals available on various sites - Mark and I got ours off Expedia, coming in at around £91 per night per room but with every third night free so it works out pretty good value. The hotel markets itself as a "boutique" hotel but I have to say that we found its choice of art a bit questionable - carpets with large domino or needle and thread designs and plates with playing card designs - trying a bit too hard, we thought. Still, the rooms themselves are comfortable enough, if a little stark, and the location is amazing - right on the banks of the Danube. Our room had a wonderful view of the parliament - definitely request a room at the front of the hotel and don't worry about the noise; the rooms must be quadruple-glazed they were that quiet. A metro stop is nearby, which is very useful, as is a very homely restaurant the name of which escapes us - turn right out the front door and then first right and it's got a large outdoor terrace. We do have a fair few gripes about the hotel - eg managing to book and confirm a restaurant booking on a night that the restauarant was closed; extremely small gym and average breakfast, but on the whole it is a very pleasant place in a great location with some stunning views
Great views of the parliament Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averagePhone: 36.1.4879406
