Szechenyi baths -- end of the 2 hour ticket ssystem?

by halikowski

Is it true that the refunds for visitors to Szechenyi baths who stay less than two hours has now been cancelled? The information boards suggest you are still entitled to a refund from the full whole day price, but the staff say the system has changed.

I don't know how the refund system worked earlier, but recently a new entry system has been introduced. The website of the operator (www.budapestgyogyfurdoi.hu) suggests that such refunds are only available to Budapest Card holders (and it's a mere 270 HUF, that is 1 EUR). You can also save some money without Budapest Card if you enter after 5 PM and even more if you enter 2 hours before closing time. (But in these cases you get a discount, not a refund.) Refunds are also available to people having a treatment in the framework of the Hungarian social security system if they stay no more than 3 hours, holding a ticket valid for the whole day.

Thank you. The website you suggested is a very good one. You are right: they have changed the system, and it is worth buying the Budapest Card.

Travel Tips for Budapest

Two rules for tourists

by Gentleman75

Don't wear Your backpack on Your back if You are on public transport vehicle or in shopping centre, because some pickpockets maybe in work! One time I took my coat on the back of a chair in the West End City Center (big shopping centre in Budapest) and I sat down. One hour later, when I put on my coat, my mobile phone was already stolen from its inner pocket. :(

Keep one of Your eyes on the groud to dodge the outputs of the dogs and the other one on the marvellous buildings.

Fee for photography in museums

by Gypsystravels

Most of the museums in Budapest charge a nominal fee for taking photographs of the works of art, so please make sure to purchase the photo ticket. There are guards checking to make sure you actually paid this fee, and if you didn't, they will not allow you to take any photos.

I purchased the photo ticket fee subsequently after not being allowed to take photos at the Museum of Art....what a shame, but at least I got to see all those beautiful works of art.

Inside the Jézus szíve (Jesus`s heart) church

by 1courage

The internal of the church is quite simple, and reflect very well the typical french-romanesque style in wich it was built. It has two naves and a seating capacity for 600 believers. Due to the financial problems, the internal decoration lasted for almost other 2 decades and it was ready only in 1909.

The Vigado of Pest

by croisbeauty

The Vigado of Pest (Concert Hall) was built between 1859 and 1864 on the site of the old concert hall, and the architect was Frigyes Feszl. Richly proportioned and symmetric, its facade overlooks the Dunakorzo (the Danube promenade) and is an excellent example of the Hungarian Romantic style.

Care for a small loafing tour around Buda hills?

by andreslo2000

Take the children railway but don't go to the end station. There's a station in the middle of the nowhere. There's your place to descend. Now you have to walk some 2 or 3 miles to the cable railway which would carry you downhill. Take the only buss and you'll reach civilizaton again.
