 | Budapest Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 612 | | Every room in the Marriott has a small balcony that faces the Danube River. The view in the daytime is beautiful but at night, when everything is lit up, it is stunning. The river promenade is a good place for a stroll, and when you are tired, just hop on the tram that runs alongside the riverfront for a ride back. The double room has a king size bed, a sitting area with an armchair and an ottoman. The best feature in the bathroom is a digital scale, I guess Marriott thinks their guests should have the right to know their weight and cringe about it in private. Bath towels are large and fluffy and the usual amenities expected in a good hotel are all there. The fitness and health center in the hotel is open to guests as well as the public. The special winter rate is €95 for double room, which makes staying at the four-star Marriott Budapest the best offer in the city.
The view of the Danube from every room is the best feature of the hotel, bar none. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Mercure Hotel Budapest Nemzeti: The Old Grandeur
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Mercure Nemzeti is situated in front of the metro and bus stop on a busy street less than a mile from the main train station. There are 13 Accor hotels on that one-mile radius, from the high end Sofitel to the budget Ibis, and Mercure Nemzeti finds itself in the middle of them all. The front of the hotel is painted a rather bizarre colour of blue that doesn't do much for the appearance. However, once you pass through the door, the look improves and it gets better the higher you go up. The architectural mouldings, the ropes on the stairs, the heavy curtains, the gilded mirrors, the details on the cornices, everything spells out old money. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. The windows must be sound proof and the carpet must be very thick because no sound could penetrate through and the days and nights of our stay were pleasantly quiet. The only minus point I found with Mercure Nemzeti is it has only one elevator. However, the rate of €51 for the double room makes this fault rather trifle. The desk staffs are very courteous, but they are not very knowledgeable as they could be. We ended up using the concierge at Hilton Hotel for some of our quests on gifts and services available in the city.
Breakfast at Mercure Nemzeti is an elaborate event. Although the price was not included in our room rate, we were very happy to pay €13 for this first meal of the day. The breads are fresh, the fruits are sweet, the pastries are excellent, the cake is decidedly homemade, and each different kind of salad has its own distinctive taste. The hot food is prepared with care and differs daily. There is even very good chocolate mousse, which I attacked with glee. The restaurant at Mercure serves excellent food at a very reasonable price, and that was where we had our dinner on our last night in the city. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Marco Polo Hostel: It is rather a hotel than a hostel
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Marco Polo Hostel is about 20 minutes to walk from the East train-station Budapest Keleti pu. They have a lift and all rooms have private facilities and even a TV - (BUT do not expect a big variety of programs : I had 1 in hungarian and 2 commercial programs in Italian ) On the total this hotel was my best hotel in Budapest so far and prices are quite high in general in Budapest.
The ONLY thing that reminded me of a hostel was the kind of breakfast with a terrible instant coffee and an orange-juice and cherry-juice made by syrup. BUT :Jam, butter, bread, rolls, 4 sorts of sausages and cheeses, cereals and Milk were OK, and they had even a big variety of tea-bags that you could choose from. Your room will be cleaned every day and you get fesh towels. Hot water any time and on 4th floor I also was rather safe from the Karaoke-noises from their cellar-restaurant... The price for a singleroom was 10800 hufl (40€uros), breakfast included. NO Curfew, the reception is open 24 hours a day !! The 2 Internet-points in the hall work with coins, but it only took my coins without connecting me to the internet - a fact that did not make the receptionist get the idea to give back my 100 hufl ( 0,35 Euros), she just said, that it is obviously out of order.... 1 minute is 7 hufl = less than 2 Euros for 1 hour (when working at all) Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: VII. | | | | Danubius Hotel Gellert: Gellert - spa tradition - time to relax
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Danubius Hotel Gellert is one of the Hotels with the longest history in Budapest. The secessionist building was opened in 1918. It's location on the bank of the Danube near the Gellert Hill offers a great view and also a great opportunity to relax, since it has thermal water coming directly from under the Hill. The 4 star gellert Hotel is a great place to relax, but this of course has a price.
The Hotel's main attraction is the well known Gellert Spa, with thermal and other swimming pools, massage and other kinds of "threatment". The Hotel also offers restaurants, event halls, conference rooms, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 11th district, Szt Gellert Ter 1, BudapestPhone: +36 1 889 5500Directions: On thr Buda side of the Liberty Bridge, accesible with the trams No. 47, 49, 18 and 19 or with the bus No. 7. | | | | Art'Otel Budapest: Priceline in Budapest-great hotel!
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I took my chances with Priceline in Budapest and ended up with the Art 'otel for $70US + taxes. I was extremely happy about both the rate and the hotel. It was ideally situated on the Buda side of the Danube River with a view of Parliament. We got a 2nd floor room overlooking the Danube, if you are paying full price, ask for a room on the higher floors as there are trees obstructing the view from the lower floors. There was a business center with free internet on one computer, the sign said 30 minutes free but they didn't ask for your room number. People were generally quick about using it if there was a line.
Room-this is a newer hotel and as the hotel name implies, designed in an arty fashion. The furniture was Scandanavian, the carpet had a design with sewing things such as buttons, safety pins and thread. It was extremely clean. The room had a minibar/refrigerator, in room safe, air conditioning. The bed was on the soft side and the pillows were comfortable. Bathroom-hair dryer, soft big towels, Neutrogena soap and shampoo, body wash in a wall dispenser, good water pressure and lots of hot water. Breakfast-included in the rate even with Priceline, the excellent buffet included eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, pastries, juice, coffee/tea, meats, cheeses. You could eat inside or outside on the terrace if you could find a spot. Local transport-within 5 minutes of the Batthyany Ter metro/bus stop, there was also trams 19 and 41 that stopped right across from the hotel. Restaurants-several close by, I'll find the names shortly Desk staff-very helpful with directions, booked our return minivan, very pleasant Leave a Comment
