    If you're looking for a luxury location on Castle Hill, then the Hilton has to be your choice. Built in 1976, the builders of the Hilton incorporated the wall of an old Jewish cloister and enclosed the Gothic remains of an old Dominican church, but in a way that allows the public to visit the church remains. Even the windows are tinted a shade of brown so that when you look at the hotel, it blends in with the surrounding buildings.

    Some have lauded the Hilton as an example of seamlessly blending the old with the new, while others criticize it as being obtrusive and even gaudy. I'm undecided, but the location and service are all one expects from the luxury chain.

    • The Domina Fiesta is well located near the river end of Kiraly Utca, within walking distance of St Stephen’s Basilica and the Danube. Good public areas and efficient service although the bar in the lobby did not have a great selection. The rooms were comfortable but the lifts were incredibly slow. A continental breakfast is served in the cellar restaurant.

    Internet connection available in the lobby for a fee.

    The Hotel Mercure Korona is located downtown opposite the National Museum and 5 minutes walk to the Danube River.-

    The rooms are very comfortable, but you will be patient with the staff. They´re a little nervous.-

    Sofitel Atrium (ex Hyatt) is yet another 5 star luxury hotel near the Danubeside, featuring about 350 rooms. Inside the atrium is just breathtaking, giving the bar/restaurant/welcoming area downstairs an open air feeling.

    It has the full package of services just like the other "5 stars" around.

    I have been told that Red Bus Hostel is very quiet, cheap and located in the Pest's center hostel, that is perfect choice for travellers who have not too much money. Unfortunately I coud not be able to check it out myself, because they were already full when I tried to make a reservation (2 weeks before my arriving to Budapest!).

    The staff speak English and you can (try to) make your reservation via e-mail.

    Sample prices for one night:
    dorm bed - about 10 euro
    double bath room - 30 euro.

    They have not their own parking place so if you want to go the by car you will pay extra money for leaving your car there (in streets of Budapest centrum - paid in parkomats or in guarded parking place).

    The Second Hand Bookshop with English books is there.

    NH Hotel Budapest: Great Place to Stay!!    Check Rates

    • We stayed at the nH Budapest for 8 nights on a spring break holiday and were more than pleased with the accomodations. The staff was friendly and more than willing to assist us with our daily adventure plans. Our room was very nice, and relatively large (especially for a European hotel). Every night we looked forward to the comforters on the beds and watching various European television stations (although understanding what was being said was a different story).

    The bathroom came replete with toiletries which was a nice surprise and the shower had an endless supply of hot water and high pressure. Our only complaint about the room is that it was a bit on the warm side but we ended up sleeping with the window open to regulate the temperature a bit.

    The nH Budapest is approximately 2.5 blocks from the Nyugati palyaudvar Metro station and about 3 blocks from the nearest Tram stop (terminal stop for the 2 & 2A, regular stop for the 4 & 6). If you like to walk the city like we do it was very convenient to the Danube (10 minutes) the Parliament (10-15 minutes) and many small parks, shops, and restaurants.

    I would highly recommend making sure that your room reservation includes the breakfast buffet. Ours did and it was the perfect way for us to start our day. By eating the buffet every day we were able to walk around Budapest, skip lunch and treat ourselves to a snack in the afternoon to tide us over until supper.

    The buffet consisted of both hot and cold foods. We ate our fill of sausage and cheese on bread, salads, fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs, pancakes, bacon, beans, hot breakfast links, juice, tea, coffee and more. We thought we might tire of the options after a week, but I'm still craving cheese and bread for breakfast!

    A computer is located in a small room off of the lobby if you need to check your email or other web based information. It was a nice touch to be able to check on things going on at home as we had over 18" of snow in the week we were gone.

    We couldn't dream of a better accomodation in Budapest; this hotel designed by Donald Sultan is like an Art gallery, you can find art work everywhere, the design itself is something you wouldn't find anywhere else...
    Simply nothing to say about the comfort, air-conditionning is a must during summertime.
    This is not one of this ugly "hotel-big-tower" but several smaller house put together...
    Even more this is ideally located, on the banks of the river danube, opposite the parliament building, close to the buda castle district.
    One more thing, this hotel looks bloody expensive but if you can get one of their promotions, the prices are easily cut in half!

    Be aware there is also a "Bw Hotel Art Hotel" in Budapest, this a totally different hotel but that could cause some confusion for the Taxi or the minibus at the airport if you simply ask for the "Art'Otel"...

    The staff were always very courteous and most helpful. Nice bar area and lounge off the lobby area. Free internet use to guests in a quiet, separate room. Nice restaurant facility.

    The room had all amenities needed and the bed was very comfortable. A front room, with view over the DANUBE RIVER was special!!

    The breakfast lived up to what was touted in the room information as the "BEST VALUE" in the city!!! The buffet selections were very extensive, constantly refreshed, and the coffee was superb.

    The Gellert Hotel is probably Budapest best know hotel. When I began planning my trip it came up every search engine I used for accomodations. I read many mixed opinions about The Gellert and was almost afraid I had made a wrong choice after reading many negative critics of the facility. I now feel that many of the negetive comments made on the web about the Gellert are unfounded in my opinion. It is listed as a four star hotel and is said to be quite expensive. I had a single room for one person with a bathroom and only paid 70 Euro's a night. My room as small and did not have a great view, it overlooked an inside courtyard. However it was clean and comfortable and I had no complaints. Parts of the hotel have been completely renovated. My room was one of the older rooms and was in need of some renovation but it was not in bad condition in any way.

    The famous Gellert Baths are attached to the hotel. I was here in early spring before the elaborate outside wave pool and other swimming areas were open. However the Turkish baths and health spa were open inside and included in the cost of the room. I used the spa and baths daily after a long day of walking and exploring the city. They were a great way to relax. There is a male and female only bath in the hotel and also a large pool that is open to both men and women. You do not need swimming apparrel for the same sex baths. On the mens side you are provided with a small apron to use in the baths. If you are not overly modest this is a great way to enjoy the comfort of the baths. Be warned though, the staff at the baths are not overly friendly. The older men who worked in the changing area of the mens bath were actually rude at times and seemed to hate everything about their job. Be sure to check your cabin number when you change. You are given a bracelet to wear with an ID number on it. It has nothing to do with your cabin number. I have no idea what the number is for actually. I almost caused an incident when I thought it was my cabin number and then realized I had no idea what number cabin held my clothes.
