Stayed here June 2010. Friendly staff; clean rooms; convenient to some good restaurants, across the street from the train station and near some good Hungarian restaurants. We could not have been more pleased.

Thanks to VT for this hotel, After reading the deal, we booked the hotel through internet, made a call to confirm. And yes, we paid 3 nights and get 4 nights! including 4 times breakfast. Sweet. The reception didnt tell us about the deal when we came the first time. We could have stayed there from the beggining.
Anyway....about the hotel, It's nice big room, with bath, shower, hot/cold water, mini-bar, TV, heater and air-con, deposit box, nice big bed.
We pay 210 euro for 4 nights (rate was 70 euro/night) for double room. Staff are friendly. Only in breakfast room not [comparing with other].
Breakfast was ok [not outstanding like in prague or Bobbio hotel].
The best thing, its downtown, close to almost everything!

Directions: Just 300 meters away from Keleti train station. Walk!

Very nice and central next to the one of the main railway lines and on the bus/tram route. Rooms are extremely spacious and clean. Staff is absolutely wonderful and helpful.

We had an extremely pleasant stay at the Baross Hotel. The staff at reception went out of their way to arrange trips, transport and exchange for us. Our room was not quite ready when we arrived, but they offered us tea while we were waiting and assisted us with our luggage to our room - no problem

Unique Quality: Extremely central, almost next to the main railway station and nice on the budget

by kehkeh

Hello kind VTers,
I will be in Budapest next month for a few days , and I want to make sure that there is a coach that leaves from Keleti Bus station to sighet marmetei in romania.
Can someone tell me if this is true?

Also, I am thinking of staying at the HOTEL BAROSS, has anyone stayed there? is it close to Down town pest?

I rarely stay in a hotel in Hungary and sure, if I happen to do so I prefere Buda to Pest. I am not exceptionally found of entire Baross square area, not familiar with the hotel - but why not?

I am not sure, there is any bus to Máramarossziget (Sighetu Marmatiei) in Romania from Keleti. In the fact, there is nothing I can see on All busses as I know depart from Népliget station.

I was able to find a bus to Cluj, but not to Sighetu Marmatiei which is not close. It takes 10 hours to reach Cluj (Kolozsvár) from Budapest and it costs 5000 Forint or roughly $20 o/w and 9000 Ft r/t.

There is one domestic Romanian train #E1943 departing Timisoara 22:16, arriving Arad 23:29, continuing form Arad to Sighetu Marmatiei and arriving Sighetu Marmatiei 11:09 next day. There are numerous trains from Budapest to Arad and than to Timisoara: the IC 746 departing Bp. Keleti 15:10 and arriving Arad 20:20, continuing to Timisoara, arriving Timisoara 21:14 seem to be fine. If it looks too tight, there is an earlier train departing Budapest Keleti 12:10, arriving Arad 18:05, continuing to Timisoara, arriving Timisoara 18:58.

I would buy Romanian domestic tickets in Romania - much cheapaer than buying a through ticket. Ask in Budapest, what international train to you can buy "Small border crossing ticket" - they are about as cheap as domestic. My guess is, Békéscsaba - Arad will do the job. Buy a domestic Hungarian ticket till Békéscsaba.

If you are going round-trip, than a round-trip international train ticket is sometimes less, than a one-way ticket: Budapst - Bucharest is 74.20 one-way but 69.80 round-trip. In such cases just buy a round-trip international ticket Budapest - Arad - Sighetu Marmatiei - it should cost you less, than going by bus and will also take less time. Buy sleeping car in Romania for the night trip. Many Romanian sleeping cars are new, pretty fancy "WLABmee" cars.
