Coffee houses in Budapest

by drszaszpeter

Can you help me in recommending good cafes, coffee houses in Budapest. Has anybody been to Auguszt cukrászda?

In Liszt Ferenc Ter, you can find many cafes and most of them are nice places. Check my Budapest tips.

We loved Gerbeaud's which is an old establishment begun in the mid 19th century with wonderful coffees, pastries, desserts and lunches. It is in the heart of Pest at Voromarty ter. 7. We were in Budpest only about 3 days and stopped in here twice. By metro it is very near the Vorosmarty ter termminal. Check out their website: http://www.gerbeaud.hu

The Central Kavehaz on Kiroli Mihaly utca, just off Ferenciek tere, is well worth a visit. A "Grand Cafe" style place with a great buzz and not particularly expensive.

Have a good trip!

HI, I don't know what style you're looking for, but here you are some more tips:
-in Béke Szálló in (the Great Avenue) there's a coffee shop that's very nice and stylish...

- as for great coffee I'd recommend Prágai Kávéház near Kálvin tér, also you can run into some really nice ones e.g. on Visegrási street, which is very very small more like a local place but the coffee itself is great!

August/ Mozart/ Gearbaud/ Szamos are more posh ones, but are definetely a treat!

Please let me know if you need any more tips! :) Gabriella

Travel Tips for Budapest

Gellért Thermal Baths and...

by mocneto

Gellért Thermal Baths and Swiming Pool - The present building of the baths and hotel called Szt. Gellért Gyógyfürdõ és Szálló was erected in 1918 and opened to the public on 26th September of that year. The wave pool was built in 1927, and the 'champagne' bubble pool was constructed in 1934. The spa, well-known throughout the world, is the most popular spa among foreign visitors. Nearly all medical services of a spa are available, with rheumatology, comprehensive physiotherapy unit (day hospital), physiotherapy sub-unit and inhalatorium. Besides the 'champagne' and wave pools, the sunbathing terraces for women only and for mixed naturists are popular. These are open from April to late September. Hotel guests regularly use the services of the spa.

Vorosmarty ter (or square) is...

by Pegasus74

Vorosmarty ter (or square) is where a tempting selection of pastries, cakes, desserts and coffee are on offer. Its immediate south runs Vaci Utca (or street), Budapest's premier shopping street. It is pedestrianized but, attractive as it is, it looks much like any European pedestrianized shopping street.

Another area worth exploring is the Varosliget or City Park, which can be reached by Metro from Deak ter (where all lines meet) to Hosok tere on the yellow line. The impressive Millenium Monument in Heroes' Square is what you'll first see when you get out from underground. Adjacent to the square is the flamboyant Vajdahunyad Castle.

Wine, tomato, pepper, langosh

by Raimix

What food and drinks I liked in Hungary? :)

Of course, it was wine - the wine in Hungary, as it seems, is very cheap, especially in big bottles. The more expensive wine is Tokaji.

What is more, there was an offer to try some nice ketchups and peppers in Hungary and some kind of national food - langosh (it is like big pancake, but actually I didnt like this one).

Water in Hungary is WEIRD!!

by djferros

The water in this country is weird!! You can only seem to buy sparking water everywhere and even that tasted weird. One day I stumbled across a supermarket called, "Match" and found Volvic mineral water. It was like finding gold!!

Day Trips: Visegrad

by antistar

Built high, high up on a hilltop overlooking the Danube Bend, where the powerful river suddenly changes direction and heads south towards Budapest, the castle at Visegrad commands a supremely strategic position, but also has some of the most amazing views in Hungary. I can't actually vouch for these, because the castle was shut when I arrived in the late afternoon. Don't make the same mistake and get there in the morning - you'll need a good half day to get up there and explore.

It's an easy day trip from Budapest. You can take a bus from the bus station at Ujpest (end of M3 line). It takes about an hour and a half.
