comfortable and convenient Budapest base

My wife and I stayed four nights as part of a tour. We found everything first class. The breakfast was exceptional, with always plenty of space, despite the size of the Hotel. The air conditioning enabled us to keep the bedroom at a cool European level at night and ensured a good night's sleep. One morning there was an airlock in the hot water system. The housekeeping supervisor was in the room in less than two minutes and the plumbers in less than ten; an impressive level of service. We found the frequent bus service outside the door and the Metro station five minutes away gave us ready access to all of Budapest. would recommend this Hotel heartily to all except those who enjoy austentation.

Best Western Grand Hotel

This is Budapest's largest hotel with 499 rooms. Great breakfast buffet. Right on the main street of Rakoczi Street. A little loud, but it didn't bother us. We rarely spent anytime at the hotel, just used it for sleeping. If you want a hotel with a pool, luxury meals this is not for you. If you need a hotel for comfortable sleeping and centrally located, this is a great spot.

Good centrally placed hotel, if a bit dated.

Large four star hotel on one of the main streets of Budapest.

It is close to the main railway station and underground system. Also the stadium was walkable and the sightseeing was on a short cab ride away.

Plenty of efficient staff at all times, although they could become a bit stroppy at times.

Excellent buffet breakfast, bacon and eggs for me...i was still a bit hungover from the night before.

All in all a nice place, and ideal for our needs.

Unique Quality: Deposit safe was at the main reception, which meant you had to play hide and seek with the receptionist. They were quite happy to store our bags after we had checked out, for collection later on the way to the airport.

An OK Hotel for Budapest

It's clean and reasonably priced. The buffet breakfast is very good - mainly continental but good variety and always replenished. The Hotel is situated on a very busy road so ask for a quieter back room (try 618,619 or 620). Although it is a fair way from the centre of things Kelti Railway Station is 2 minutes where you can get the Metro. Outside the Hotel is a Bus-Stop so there is no need to use Taxis.

The Worst Service Ever!!

Shocking. I used an internet service to book this hotel and it listed the hotel as; "The Grand Hotel Hungaria". There was no mention of it being a Best Western Hotel. Now we all expect a level of mediocrity from Best Western, but this hotel is listed as a 4 star!!! IT'S NOT!!!

DO NOT waste your money staying at this hotel. You'd get better service from anywhere else! Rude, incompetent and lazy, the staff need a boot-camp in basic service industry training. The loaction is terrible and the hotel is Best Western appointments at there absolute worst!

I recommend you look elsewhere. No one pays any amount of money (large or small) to be treated a poorly as the staff of the Best Western Grand Hotel Hungaria treat their guests.

Unique Quality: Rude and incompetent staff.

Excellent hotel, very comfortable

This was an excellent hotel with a very nice restaraunt. The room prices given at the desk were high (120Euro fora double), but I was able to book the same room from an internet cafe down the street for 60Euro at www.hrs.de. This site is highly reccomended and gives excellent rates for hotels. The hotel's restaraunt had excellent food, friendly service, and very low prices. I cannot reccomend it highly enough.

Unique Quality: Largest hotel in the region.

Budepest Hotels/Locations

by slinder

My wife and I will be in Budapest in August.
Although I understand that Budapest is as safe as any large city, every large city has areas one should avoid if possible. I have a choice to stay at three different hotels.
One is the Grand Hotel Hungaria on Rakoczi Ut (near the station), one is the Hotel Art on Kiralyi Pal ut. (near the Museum, I believe) and the other is the Hotel Orion on Dobrentei Ut (in Buda in believe).
Any suggestions in terms of the hotels or the locations. Thanks , Cheers.

Grand Hotel Hungaria - good location, although I wouldn't recommend walking around the place at night, expect for Rakoczi ut of course which is always busy, relatively clean and safe. It's not crime what I'd be afraid of (there is CCTV surveillance in the area) but simply it's unpleasant to walk around in that rather poor area. No, it's not a slum at all, just simply a run-down neighborhood. What's definitely positive about the place is it's transportation connections: metro station (M2 Keleti palyaudvar) within 150 metres, the stop of the 'sevens' (buses 7 7A 78) is even closer. There's also good trolleybus connection to the center of the city.
The hotel is close to Eastern Station and Roses' Square Church (as well as to my favorite pub, Obester in Huszar utca).

Hotel Art - excellent location close to the Hungarian National Museum, Vaci Street, Grand Market Hall, Liberty Bridge, metro station (M3 Kalvin ter) within 200 metres, Inner Circle tram lines (47, 49) also stop there. Safe neighborhood, lots of bars around, especially in Raday utca which is famous of its cafes. (But not in Kiralyi Pal Street itself.)

Hotel Orion - fairly good location, not far from Buda Castle, Citadel, Elizabeth Bridge, Rudas Baths with adequate transport connections such as the Danube Embankment tram lines 19, 41 or Inner Buda tramline 18, buses 7,7A,78 for Pest Downtown. No metro station nearby.

I passed a few times near the Grand hotel, i can tell you its huge and looks like a very good hotel.
You alredy knbow that the hotel situated close Keleti train station so all the area is very active and noisy.
If you donr have prblam with noise and maybe some mass then thats a great hotel fdor you, if you like silence that check the other 2.
