by AnatolyZ
Hello dear travel pals...

Hello!
OW has no real bus station, only some bus stops at Népliget junction (at the side of FTC football stadion). The stadion is in front of a station of Volánbusz, so it's very near to each other. I think, it's easiest if you meet with your friend in a heated waiting room of Volánbusz station, or at the OW stops.
Have a nice christmas days in Hungary!

Congratulations to Orangeways for naming its little bus stop 'Orangeways Stadion bus station', as it is confusing (there is a Stadion bus station in Budapest, but not at Nepliget junction but at Stadionok junction, at a significant distance from each other, along different metro lines!) and megalomaniac (how many passengers go looking for a large something with lots of orange buses parking here and there?). I keep meeting people at the Volanbusz/international bus station holding OW tickets with a confused expression on their face.
BTW Happy New Year to everyone!
Travel Tips for Budapest
hotel gellert and its swimming pool
by cbeaujean
a decadent (1918) "art nouveau" or "jugendstil" building, facing danube and szabadsag bridge.
worth while taking a bath there in the covered swimming pool and its thermal waters, even if you don't have a room in the hotel.
budapest is a major spa with a lot of bathing places open to the public. the thermal pools maintain a constant 44 degres...
and chess players in the pool....
Orszaghaz - The parliament
by croisbeauty
Conctruction of the parliament was began in 1885. The architect was Imre Steindl, who had visited many countries to study the styles of various epochs. Eclecticism, combining a number of styles, seems to have been the guiding principle in his planning.
The Parliament is best known emblem of Budapest. The building is 268 m long and covers an area of nearly 18.000 m2 and was completed by 1906.
Gellar Bath Houses
by Juyish
For a treat my friend and I went to the Geller Bath house and it was amazing to walk through this beautiful structure. Keep in mind that if you opt to use the mineral hot springs inside there will be people (they separate the genders) walking naked. It's different when you experience this on the beaches of other countries but fully naked, wasn't prepared for that, including the fact that some of the attendants will insist that you go out like this. Bring water shoes, the floor is slippery and from experience slipped and fell because I went bare foot. The water is about 99 degrees which is not bad because once you get use to it then you relax. Also it's not that expensive to go and try this including the massages for less than $25 US dollars.

Circus
by Dabs
On our 1st visit to Budapest we were staying over near the circus and found it an enjoyable thing to do in the evening so we went back again on this trip in August 2005.
We were able to get tickets on the same day of the circus, there were plenty of empty seats available. Tickets for adults range from 1200-1900 ft (900-1500 for kids) but there are really no bad seats in the stadium. We opted for the 1900ft seats since the price difference isn't that great.
The show lasted for about 2 hours, the current show is a cross between the Ice Capades and Cirque du Soleil, the entire circus is set on ice skates.
I was just thinking how nice it was to have a circus free of animal acts when out came the trained doves (one of which tried to escape into the audience), followed by the trained housecats which actually impressed me quite a bit having lived with untrainable cats all my life. That was all fine until they brought out the trained polar bears, I really hate seeing such majestic animals doing silly circus acts although they didn't appear to be mistreated.
The website below is only in Hungarian but you can get an idea of the schedule by clicking on "informaciok" and the prices by clicking on "jegyrendeles".
It's an easy walk from the metro station to the circus. Other things to visit in the area are the Szechenyi Baths and the Budapest zoo. It's also close to the famous Gundel Restaurant, the prices were a bit too high for me so we passed on eating there.
