OVERNIGHT IN BUDAPEST

We stayed one night in this hotel a couple of days ago, and I can recommend it. The price is quite reasonable (we paid 65 EUROs for the (doble) room for one overnight with breakfast. The location of the hotel is, n my opinion, quite good, especially for a short stay in the Budapest, as the hotel is located only a couple of meters away from the famous "Chain bridge", so that you just have to walk a few meters to the bridge, cross the bridge and you are already in the center of the city. Besides that, for us it was very convenient taht the hotel has a closed garage, so that we could leave our car there without having to think about parking and the car's safety.

Carlton Hotel Budapest

Pleasant and comfortable, although rooms are quite small. They were fine for a solo traveler like myself, however would be quite tight for two people. The location was convenient as it was only a block away from the Buda side of the Chain Bridge and only a few steps downhill from the castle district. The breakfast was a simple continental style breakfast. Staff was very pleasant.

Unique Quality: Location!!!

At the foot of Budapest Castle

I choose this hotel for its proximity to the Castle District and because it is located right along the Danube on the Buda side.

The rooms are decent with a decent bed. Nothing fantastic other than its location.

Top Location

Short of staying in the castle, you won't find a better located hotel. Come out and you are at the foot of the castle. Climb the slope and you are there. In the other direction, you are at the chain bridge in seconds.

Room is above average. Staff are not overly friendly but rather are very efficient and also very security conscious. These are positives.

Breaksfast was nothing special.

Close to the Castle

Had a week long stay in the Carlton. Very clean, big enough rooms.
The Carlton is on the Buda side just next to Clarke Adam and right under the fishermans Bastion.
The chain bridge is just a few minutes away and you can be in the pest side in ten mins.
The tram is also a few minutes walk from the Carlton.
The local Spar is 15 min walk down the steps from the hotel to the road at the bottom and turn left.

Unique Quality: Although small and a bit sqeezed in between everything else the Carlton is a great located hotel for those on a cheaper budget.

Our accomodation

Descent western style hotel. Outstanding location next to Chain Bridge and steps up to Buda palace. Not conveinient to underground.

A good alternative is anything on the Underground line just outside of Budapest proper. You can get a good room or an apartment for less.

Sublime location and value for money

Next to the Bridge of Chains in a small road where no traffic is allowed. Guaranteed quiet location in the hart of the town and within walking distance of the old heart of Buda and the new town of Pest (accross the bridge). A very elaborate buffet breakfast with fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, pastry, meat, cheese and lot's more makes sure you get the maximum of calories to start your walking days through this lovely city.

Unique Quality: the most quiet location in the centre of the city

More about Carlton Hotel Budapest

good hotel

by TripAdvisor Member tomlol

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights from 9th Feb to 12 Feb. It was for my friend's 21st birthday and there were 9 of us.

Whilst we were the usual clientelle for such a hotel we certainly enjoyed it.

We arrived very early and were kindly given two spare rooms to put our luggage in. Staff were the grumpit i have ever seen but efficient and they may have been grumpy simply because of our appearance.

Rooms were functional and plainly decorated with simple white walls and blue carpet. Shower was good.

The hotel is in a great location and if that is important to you as it was to us then you should keep this in mind as you can walk everywhere from the attractions in Buda to the bars of Pest.

The breakfast was good and ofered the a variety of options. There is a nice restaurant down the stairs from the hotel and a good snack bar opposite.

Had a great stay in Budapest the city is beautiful and offers such good value.

Definitely visit the buda castle labyrinth as it is so unique and scary at the same time. Lastly for Brits wanting to watch sport and eat good food in an environment that caters for Brits and Hungarians alike visit the Caledonia Scots Bar in Pest. It is just of the main square for Bars and has a good selcetion of draught beers and the food is outstanding particularly the scottish breakfast and steak baguette. We went to many real hungarian places but some of the food was a bit different so this offered us a great base nd we went every the day. The staff are absolutely excellent. Finally Roctogo-on forever!!! Hungarian dancing rules.

Has anyone stayed at the Carlton Hotel at Apor Peter utca 3, 1011 Budapest? Any input on the quality and location? Also, what is the best way to get there from the train station?

Re: Carlton Hotel Budapest

by fischert

Hi,
Which train station you are arriving to? I think it will be the Keleti train station. From there you have to take the subway (line 2 or called red line) towards to Déli train station and take 3 stops and get off at Deák square. There you have to change to bus number 105 going toward to Apor Vilmos square. From Deák square take 3 stops and get off at Clark Adam square. From there it's a 3-5 minutes walk. Don't forget to buy and validate tickets for the public transport. you will need two normal tickets 290 HUF/pcs or one called "changing" ticket costs 450 HUF/pcs.

If you have more question about your stay in Budapest feel free to ask.

It is a good location, just at the feet of the Castle Hill, very close to Chain Bridge. The Castle District is a quick funicular ride away and you can walk to Downtown Pest in 10-15 minutes. Public transportation is okay too, although there's no metro station nearby, it's about 10-15 minutes on foot. But bus 105 takes you to Andrassy Avenue, bus 16 up to the Castle District and trams 19, 41 will take you along the Danube either way, as soon as the Danube Sewage Collector construction gets completed (within a few weeks).

From Budapest-Keleti station, take metro M2 in direction Deli palyaudvar for 3 stops, to Deak Ferenc ter. From Nyugati station, you need metro M3 for 2 stops, in direction Kobanya-Kispest. Get off at Deak Ferenc ter. At Deak Ferenc ter, look for the park in the middle of the square. That's where you have to look for the bus stop.
You need bus 16 in direction Moszkva ter M or bus 105 in direction Apor Vilmos ter (and NOT Gyongyosi utca M). You have to get off after crossing the Danube, at Clark Adam ter. The street of the hotel is one block from this bus stop along Fo utca. (You don't have to cross any street to get there.)

From Deli station, take metro M2 in direction Ors vezer tere for 2 stops, to Batthyany ter. Look for the stop of bus route 86 in front of the market hall. Take this bus to Clark Adam ter (2nd stop, after a roundabout at Chain Bridge). If trams will be operating, choose them: you need line 19 or 41, take them for 2 stops, to Lanchid stop.
