Comfortable Suite in Budapest

On arriving at our Budapest hotel we were informed we were at the wrong hotel as the booking agent had booked us into the City Hotel Matyas. We quickly transferred to our new accommodation and were pleasantly surprised to be given a recently renovated suite.
Our living room was huge at least 6 metres by 5 metres and the bedroom slightly smaller with a good sized bathroom. The hotel was 60 metres from Vaci Utca and 100 metres from the Danube, just near the Erzsebet bridge. It was very well located with metro and trams nearby.

Unique Quality: An old building which has had renovations completed in various areas, an outstanding feature was the room size of our suite. There is a very small 2 person lift which must be close to 80 years old.

At the bridgehead of the Erszebet Bridge

City Panzio Matyas provides a total of 80 rooms. City Panzio Matyas is increasing the number of the rooms per year by renovating and converting the old houses of the building to comfortable 3 star hotel rooms. The quality is pretty good and don't be affraid you are in the center of the town but it's really quiet!

Unique Quality: Look at the picture! You will have your breakfast there! Its the world famous Matyas Pince (Cellar) Restaurant (1904) and named after the famous and most popular Hungarian King, Matyas. Every morning you will start the day as a King or a Queen of a Fairy Tale....

Hotel Matyas, Budapest

by cathy9510usa

Has anyone stayed here, and is it nice? The website looks pretty good, but when I looked up the location on the map, it looks as if it's located underneath a bridge parapet. Is it noisy? Does it have an ugly "bridge undersides" view? Is it conveniently located? Thanks for your help.

Is it Matyas Hotel or City Hotel Matyas? The first is located in District XVI, quite far from the center, while City Hotel Matyas is actually the building over the Matyas Pince, a once-popular (nowadays too touristy) Hungarian restaurant. It is actually located next to the ramp of Elisabeth Bridge, which doesn't give a good view from the ground floor or the first floor, but from higher floors, the view is gorgeous: close-by there is the Inner City Parish Church, then to the left the Danube, and beyond it the Buda Castle.
You can reach all tourist attractions easily from this hotel. Metro station Ferenciek tere (M3, Blue Line) is within 200 meters, tram 2 (Pest Embankment Line) stop located within 50 metres or so. You can reach the whole of Inner City on foot.

Many thanks. It is the City Hotel Matyas I was wondering about.
