This is one of the remaining true Grand Hotels in Europe, built during the Belle Epoque, run down in the communist era, restored to old glory and reopened in 2003. It is all marble, stucco and gold. Sometimes it is a bit too much, I am afraid they wiped out the charm with the restoration and think it needs a bit more patina - maybe this will come as time goes by.
Location is very good, a tram stop is vis-a-vis, the metro only five minutes away. Opera is in walking distance and the popular hang out place Ferenc Liszt square with plenty of restaurants and cafes is just around the corner.
Service was impeccable, but I didn't ask for much, so I can't really comment.
The fitness and spa area is excellent. As hotel guest you change in your room, grabe the bathrobe and take the elevator down. Beautiful architecture in the spa, two jacuzzis, saunas, steambath, showers etc. The gym had surprisingly good machines. The maid hands out towels and provides water and fresh fruit.
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. Cereals were only cornflakes and dried fruit, no natural flakes/grain. The assortment of meat/salami/cheese was a bit small. They had several sorts of bread, but no dark bread. The loose Darjeeling was gone and despite I told them the first morning of my stay they didn't get any until I left three days later. A plus was freshly squeezed OJ (upon request) and freshly made eggs/omeletts. Yummy.
Unique Quality: I booked an Executive Single room (which was a double, single use) through the German travel agency DERTOUR. Got a great rate of 120 Euro per night incl. breakfast and the deal was stay 4 nights, pay only 3. So it came out as 90 Euro per night which is considerably less than the rack rate (and even the special offers directly from the hotel). The room was large, window to the atrium (which I didn't like but it's better than to the noisy street), with beautiful interior, equipped with everything you'd expect. A plus was the coffee/tea making facility. TV had many German and English channels. The bed was comfy (a bit on the soft side). Bathroom was really large with tub and shower. Bathrobe and slipper were provided. The prices for beverages from the mini bar were outrageous - no, thanks. Also, telephone rates are ridiculously expensive, even more than expected for a 5star hotel. Didn't use that either.
The advantage of an Executive Room (or higher category) is that you use of the Club Lounge is included. This Lounge is located on the mezzanin floor with view of the main hall/reception to one side and street to the other. They have three PCs with internet access (free), offer beverages/drinks (even alcoholic), snacks, desserts etc. for free from 6 am to 10 pm. An excellent value. The problem is you're tempted to eat/drink there instead of exploring Budapest's other nice restaurants/cafes.
Incredible service from all the staff. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It's not right next to the Danube and the main shopping area, but is a nice 10-15 minute walk. There is a lot of other things around the hotel though.
Simply perfect, 4 wonderful days...ready to repeat same experience.

Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal is very nice. It is locate in the heart of the business district of Pest, just feq minutes by walk from the Opera and the Chain Bridge. In this five stars hotel you can find all you need to enjoy your journey in Budapest.
We stayed for 3 nights in July 2004 and were very impressed indeed. The room was of a good size and spotlessly clean. All staff were very helpfull and friendly and we found the service to be faultless. The hotel is in a great location surrounded by numerous shops and restaurants. Trams pass by the door or the nearest metro station is 2 minutes by foot. The river Danube is a short walk away or 3 stops on the Metro for the weary. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of hot and cold choices. My Wife opted for a freshly cooked omlette filled with the ingredients of her choice.
Unique Quality: The Grand Royal's strengths have to be it's location, quality of service, size and cleanliness of rooms. If I'm lucky enough to return to Budapest I know where I'll want to stay. We got a great rate through alpharooms.

This is one of the best hotels in Prague.
Very close to the Jewish quarter.
We wanted to go to this hotel first but we couldnt find a good deal so we took corinthia towers.
This was our hotel for the honeymoon.
5 stars hotel with a lot of good things , good service , great breakfast and more.
If you want to walk to the center it is a little bit far (40-60 minutes) but you can use the nearest metro station Vyshrad and get to your destination in less than 10 minutes.
The room was big , hot water in the bathroom , the view was very beautiful (although it was 6 floor only).
In the morning the breakfast was huge ! eggs , fruits , vegetables , potatoes , water , soda water , cakes , juices.
This breakfast can make you full almost all day !
I think that this is one of the most beautiful hotels in prague and you will enjoy there.
Although it is a little bit far from the center the metro is very close and fast.
For people that wants to enjoy a good hotel and not a cheap hostel although it is not very expensive !
It cost us less than 100USD per day (i cant make the exact calculation because the whole deal cost us 1000USD and it was 7 nights in the hotel and a flight from Israel). To my opinion this hotel was great !.
When i am traveling i am going to simple hotels or b&b and that was the first time i went to such hotel outside Israel.
I enjoyed the food and the view , the restarants and the service.
We just returned from Budapest where we stayed at the Corinthia Grand Royal for 4 nights. On arrival we were stunned at the hotel, which has recently been renovated and looked fantastic, no expense has been spared with marble trimmings as far as the eye can see.
Our room was lovely, the decor was elegantly furnished and the bathroom was gorgeous. We did have a problem with the air conditioing and it was extremely hot at night, unfortunately we did not have a window which opened out onto the street but which opened onto the atrium allowing a minimal breeze. After contacting the Management about this they came and turned off the air conditioning and the room was significantly cooler as a result. To be honest the heating was welcome after walking around all day in temperatures which fell as low as -6 degrees!! The hotel staff cannot do enough for you to ensure your stay is comfortable and any requests are dealt with swiftly and professionally.
It is worth staying at this hotel for the breakfast alone, we only needed breakfast and our evening meal (which were usually very cheap!!!). The breakfast is plentiful and varied including champagne!
Unfortunately the spa has not been opened yet and the hotel arranges for guests to visit their sister hotel which we did not decide to do as we were far to busy walking around taking in the sights. When the spa does open in the near future I would advise anyone and everyone to visit.
On our exploring of the city we walked past and visited a few other hotels in the area, including the Hilton and the Radisson and have to say that I still consider the Corinthia to be the best!!
Happy Holidays!!
If looking and feeling palatial was the only thing that defined a good hotel then the Corinthia Grand would undoubtedly rate a solid 5*. But what if it is without warmth and personality?
To be served here is like being served by robots. It's like everyone has had their personality trained out of them. Any attempt to engage in conversation or connect at a human level is met with a polite minimum response followed by a silent pause as if to say "have you finished with me?". I can only think that this impersonal attitude is seen as the way that good unobtrusive service should be provided.
It reminds me of a conversation I once had with a well-to-do friend who was telling me how in a nice restaurant her request was met with an enthusiastic, "no problem!". Sensing my puzzlement at what her issue was she kindly explained that the 'correct' response from a person 'in service' should have been a quiet, "certainly".
She would have enjoyed the Corinthia Grand.
This hotel is the bee's knees. We decided to upgrade and have breakfast included. Although we had arrived late, a quick call and brunch would be waiting for us after we freshened up. I have read other reports about the hotel and people had said the staff were robotic.. Not so, they are so helpful. Get to know Tamas the Chief Concierge he's a mind of information. Like many others who have been through the doors of the Corinthia, it cant fail to impress!. P.S An update on the Spa, workmen in hard hats are still busying themselves next door so an early April deadline may have been a little porky.
The 5 star Corinthia hotel lobby-Budapest
Hi all,
I am going to visit Budapest beginning of may cause of a conference at Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal, Erzsébet körút 43-49, Budapest H-1073.
I look for another / even better hotel close by (max. 5-10 minutes of walk). I would like to have a better view of Budapest where I can invite customers along. Or is this hotel simply the best ?
I would be nice to be forced to get out of the hotel/conference for a walk to own hotel...
Thanks for your advise.
Jan
Dear Jan,
I do not really understand your question. Do you mean, the only way of having a better wiev of Budapest, if you are forced to walk from one hotel to the other?
Ok, if so, I have two options:
Queen's Court
http://www.queenscourt.hu/galeria.php?g=3&m=8&lang=en
or
Radisson Blu Béke Hotel
http://www.radissonblu.com/hotel-budapest/rooms
both are in short walking distance of Corintia Grand.
BUt: When you have time , walk to Oktogon square
(it's very near to all of these hotels) and walk towards to downtown on
Andrassy street.
(You can have a stop at Liszt Ferenc square, to have a coffe)
If you have no time, take old underground at Oktogon to Deak square/downtown
and walk around. Walking down to Danube you can have a look at the Castle Hill, Palace, Fisherman's bastion, Chain Bridge, etc.
Have a nice stay in Budapest

The Grand Royal's strengths have to be it's location, quality of service, size and cleanliness of rooms. If I'm lucky enough to return to Budapest I know where I'll want to stay. We got a great rate through alpharooms.

Q: 7 days "hi I am going to Budapest for a week and want to buy a 7 day transport ticket. Could someone tell me the one to buy and what..."
A: "Strange but true you buy the 7-day pass. You can get these from post offices and transport ticket offices and the pass allows use of all public transport within the city..."
