A Mixed Bag -- Some Good, Some Bad
I stayed here for 4 nights in August 2008. I chose this hotel due to its location being a compromise between the inner city and the Sziget Festival site. I did not really use any of the thermal facilities. My room was okay, good wheelchair access in the bathroom. Good breakfast.
Up to this point, I'd give the place a solid "satisfied" rating. However, there are cons to be reviewed: First of all, the air conditioning is not working well -- when it gets hot in Budapest -- and it frequently does so during summer -- this is a problem. It was always too hot in my room even though I set the airconditioning to maximum level -- the technician which I had called told me it was working fine, just not performing any better.
The next negative thing is the inability of the management to take responsibility for mistakes by compensating their customers for them. In my special case, I had ordered an early room breakfast on my day of departure -- there was a special form for it which I filled out and handed it to the check-in on the day before. On the morning in question, nothing was brought to my door, and due to my early departure, the buffet restaurant wasn't open yet.
Mistakes do happen. What discerns good standards from poor ones, however, is the way they are dealt with. My complaint was dealt with in a way that you could compare either with Fawlty Towers, or the earlier Communist Regime covering up a mistake, or Donald Rumsfeld's very special way of showing responsibility when apologizing for errors without doing anything about them.
I got a totally inadequate reaction as they first simply denied the facts, then said they were sorry but that was it for them. I asked that the price for one breakfast be deducted from my bill which they refused by repeatedly stating that I had an all-inclusive price. This really made me mad because it showed they simply did not understand what I was demanding and why I was demanding it. Instead, I was offered a piece of cake for my trip to the airport. Fawlty Towers, indeed!
Unique Quality: Pros: Thermal facilities, good breakfast, good all-round value
Cons: a/c too weak, out of town, management has Communist customer relationship attitude
You will find better value for money, especially if you don't need the thermal baths.
