Plz suggest Budapest - Bratislava (return) Train/Orange Bus

by srav

Dear All,

I am planning for a day to Bratislava from Budapest !!

I found that Budapest-Bratislava (return) is 16 € by train and 14€ by orange bus!

Can someone suggest me the best way!

If so, can i buy the tickets on the day of travel!

Also Please suggest me how to plan 2 days in Budapest so that i can cover at least all major touristic locations!

HI!

I DID IT BY TRAIN AND I THINK IT'S THE BEST WAY TO DO IT. I WENT TO BRATISLAVA EARLY IN THE MORNING AND RETURNED TO BUDAPEST BY NIGHT. HUNGARIAN TRAINS ARE GOOD AND IT'S A NICE WAY OF TRAVEL. NOT SO TIRED AS BY BUS! I BOUGHT THE TICKETS THE DAY BEFORE BUT I THINK THAT YOU CAN BUY IT ON THE DAY. ENJOY IT!

Definitely use the train. 16 euro r/t ticket can be bought at any time, so no problem here. Orangeways aren't reliable enough with a tight schedule - pretty often buses don't show up, lines canceled etc.
The first morning train to Bratislava and last evening train from Bratislava to Budapest actually German, so they are really good

The sights in Budapest are pretty spread out. One option is the on/off tourist Bus. Another is to get a subway Map and get a two day tourist pass if you are going to use the subway a lot. At any rate get a map. You definitely want to go to Castle Hill in Buda and that can take almost a whole day. There are a fair amount of sites around the old center in Pest that are all walkable once you are in the center. The Central Market, St. Stephens, Parliament Building, Chain Bridge. Also the #2 Tram goes across the center near the river.

Heroes Square and the Park is another big site that's a mile your so from the center.

Well, i did the same jorney laste Octuber.

But for me it is chepear...:-)

I made Budapest- Bratislava by Orange ways (great service, on time, very nice bus, ofering cold drinks)and i pay 10 euros. You could and should pay in the day, at the bus driver. You can pay in euros or forints.
The return i made in train, but i bought the train ticket in the slovakian side, and pay lesse thant if i bought in the Hungarian side.
In Bratislava you will pay 13.20, and you could pay in local currency or Euros.

It was a nice trip, and with no probelms.

If you had more questions, just let me know. :-)

Interesting, what was the point behind paying 23.2euro instead of 16 while using train both ways?

Re: Plz suggest Budapest - Bratislava (return) Train/Orange Bus

10 € = Budapest- Bratislava (in Orange Ways)

13.20 € = one way ticket Bratislava- Budapest bought in train sation in Bratislava.

The point is that you could catch later the transportation to Bratislava (the first train is to earlier for me), and it's fast going by the bus, it only takes 2.30 to reach Bratislava, and the train takes more than 3 hours.

Sometimes the price isn't everything...

Travel Tips for Budapest

free internet

by halikowski

Most places like Macdonalds and most cafes offer their customers free wireless internet. I had problems, probably because I was using an old computer with a poor outdated wireless receiver. Otherwise, you can find free internet services in the youth hostels like the Kollegium on the river-side of Raday utca.

see the bridges along the Danube; there are several famous bridges in Budapest : Chain Bridge (the first permanent bridge connecting the two cities Buda and Pest), Elizabeth Bridge (379 m length), Liberty Bridge (inaugurated in 1894 by the Emperor Franz Joseph), Margaret Bridge.

Ladies sitting on the corner of a table.

by biggeorge

Its apparently bad for women to sit on the corner of a table ( leg either side) , someone told me that if they do it they won't get married. Don't ask me why , might have something to do with sitting with your legs wide apart.

Statue's Secret

by AnnS

The statue of Hussar General András Hadikon on horseback, in the Buda Castle Hill district, is almost totally coated by catina but if you look carefully, you'll notice that the horse's testicles are shiny. This is apparently because Budapest's engineering students frequently polish them on the morning of their exams to bring them good luck.

Franz Liszt Music Academy, Liszt Ferenc ter 8. If you enjoy secession / art nouveau / jungenstil architecture and design, make sure you see the interiors of this building. While somewhat moody and dark - the various glazes and tile work by Zsolnay is beautiful. Be sure to go upstairs and the main concert hall. I have not had a chance to attend a concert yet. Directions: walking on Andrassy towards Hero's Square, turn right onto Franz Liszt square, walk to the corner of Kiraly.
