The Parliament building, which has become the symbol of the capital, was built between 1880 and 1902 to the designs of Imre Steindl. The alluvial soil of the Danube bank had to be reinforced by a two- metre (7 ft.) deep concrete foundation so that it support the colossal building, which is 268 metres (300 yds.) long and 123 metres (140 yds.) at its greatest width has ten courts, 27 gates, and 29 staircases. The exterior of the building is adorned with lace-like Gothic pinnacles and 88 statues representing Hungarian rulers princes and military commanders. On the Danube side an unbroken line of arcades dominates the building, with neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance motifs. In the centre of the building, in Kossuth Lajos tér, is the main entrance, flanked by bronze lions, behind which the ornamental staircase leads to the hall under the dome.

The Parliament Building. It is the largest building in Hungary and was based on the Houses of Parliment in London. The Dome is spectacular. As you can see from the picture...they were doing some work on it when I was there!

Have dinner at Kehli Vendeglo
by franinmuc
We found this restaurant recommended on Trip Advisor and although it is a bit far out, we decided to go all the way there. It is located on the Buda side, on the upper end, on the same level as the top of Margit island. We were not disappointed. This was one of our best Hungarian meal experiences in Budapest.
The Kehli is an old inn - founded 1899. Ask for a seat in the courtyard. They have live musik every night. We saw (or rather heard) many Hungarians at the restaurant which means that it is a place frequented by locals - a good sign.
Service was up to standard, food was good, wine was good, musik was nice. Go with an appetite.

Full cycle in Buda Hills
Step 1: Cogwheel Railway in Buda Hills.
If you want to break away from the busy town and the must to see tourist attractions it is also easy in Budapest. Just head to Buda Hills and take some time in green. You should start with the Cogwheel Railway (Fogaskerekû Vasút). It is run by BKV (Budapest Public Transport Co.), so your ticket or day pass will be valid on this too. Its lower end stop is just a couple of stops by tram No. 56 from underground stop 'Moszka Tér'.
The upper end is on Szabadság Hegy/Hill.
