train/bus Budapest-Bratislava

by sterne84

Hi everybody,
I'll be travelling to Hungary in August and flying back to Italy from Bratislava airport.
I checked for buses / trains and just found Orangeways and Volanbusz.
My question is : are there other bus companies that run between Budapest and Bratislava?
Do you know how much the train ticket is?

Thank you very much in advance :)

Local transport in Bratislava: you'll need to change lines once to get to the airport from the bus station. (Except if you take Volanbusz, terminating at the airport.)

Take buses 21 25 78 or trolleybus 210 from Autobusova stanica (bus station) to Racianske myto, then transfer to bus 61 in direction Letisko (Airport). The journey time to Racianske myto is about 5 minutes, frequency at least 15 minutes. From Racianske myto it takes 20 minutes to reach the airport, bus frequency is 20 minutes during off-peak.

Travel Tips for Budapest

Christmas decoration

by m-joy

This is the fabulous atmospheric Christmas decoration in Vaci utca which gives the crowded hectical shopping street a very special atmosphere. Many streets in Budapest are decorated like that, in the Andrassy ut you find all the trees between Bajcsy ut and Oktogon illuminated. I liked that very much.

The Matthias Church at Buda

by croisbeauty

The most important and the most cherished church in Budapest is the Matthias Church on Szentharomsag ter. A church has stood on this site ever since the beginning of 13th century.
After the ousting of the Turks, it was rebuilt in a Baroque form.

Budapest is a town for schools. On the photo you can see the students - after graduation -, at the Szechenyi Lanc hid/bridge.

It is a tradition to take photos - on that place -, with Pastor teachers (from USA,MD, Baltimore) and students from the Bible School KETA(Hungary,Budapest) .Many of the students in the past 13 years were continued theirs studies in USA,Maryand, Baltimore,MBCS /GGWO/.

Name-days in Hungary

by csordila

Name days in Hungary differently from english-speaking countries are widely celebrated and very popular. A flower and tiny gifts are given as a present to the women mainly, the men get bottle of wine from everybody, the colleagues, the family, and from friends.
Birthday is popular too, but its celebrating is generaly a matter of the family.

The Roman Catholic Church provides the name of one of his Saints to the Baptized who should be his/her ideal and his/her patron in the matters with God. This is the main forename, in Hungary called "Christian name", given to a child at the baptism or "christening".
I got my christian name from Saint Ladislaus, in Hungarian (Szent) Laszlo, who was the 5th christian King of Hungary in the 11st Century.

Go to the hills north of Budapest - great area

by beluga

We spent some time in a holliday home near the little town of Nagymaros. It's located some 38 km's north of Budapest. The home was built halfway up the mountain, with a great view on the Donau and the Visegrad castle (opposite side of the Donau).

It's a very nice area with beautiful views, green, gentle slopes and some sites worth visiting and some entertainment as well. See next 2 "Off the beaten path tips"
