Family travel
After planning for 3 years our family vacation was a huge success. There are too many things to say of what we liked the best. I guess it would be the friendlyness of the people. Traveling with cousins who live in Budapest.

Hello all,
Seven of us Irish people (3 girls, 4 guys) are visiting Budapest for a long weekend from 13th - 16th Nov. Could anybody suggest any pubs or late bars? Not really looking for dance clubs, maybe just late bars or more 'laid back' clubs?
Also, we would like to watch the Ireland v. France World Cup qualifier, any recommendations for a good Irish bar that shows sport/football?
Thanks to all for your help!

Oh gosh, 7 young irish people diving into Budapest's nightlife...
There are lots of good and honest places to go, but the ones you mostly read about are the bad ones !
be aware of the local tricks to get you into a disco, bar etc.
mostly its beautiful women asking you something, talking a bit and inviting you for a drink at a cafe closeby.
They might place you at a table full of empty glasses, and finally you have to pay for drinks that you never had. Friendly guys will accompany you to the next ATM-machine just in case that you dont have enough cash with you...
we had several such stories already in our forums and the bills had been 1000 euro and more and you really should not believe that police is of any help there
take a look at these 2 links :

yep some of my other half's mates were duped like this but the gang had guns and not only took them to the ATM they went back to the hotel for the rest of thier cards and money
however my daughter and myself wandered around and went in some pubs ( usually of th etourist track - where the locals went) and didn't have any problems at all - we stayed in hotal Normafa which was out in the Buda Hills but a great place to be with good food and loads of drinks and friendly english speaking staff
enjoy budapest but keep an eye on what you are up to
Wow, Budapest sounds like great fun...I can't wait:)
Thanks for the advice, I think I'll have to keep my wits about me during the this trip!

Several on Raday Utca near Kelvin Ter (can't remember their names). This is a better area for bars and Restaurants than Vaci Utca or other places in the center.
PS I meant Kalvin Ter. FYI "Ter" is "square"; "utca" is "street".
Budapest is very safe, and as long as you avoid being lured to bars by pretty women on Vaci Utca you'll probably be fine. We have tons of foreigners working at or visiting our studio (including myself), and nobody has ever had a problem. It does happen, I've read about it in the news, but don't spend all night worrying about it :).
For an Irish football match with a good atmosphere I'd recommend Becketts (http://www.becketts.hu/) on Bajcsy Zsilinszky Ut. They definitely have a TV and their schedule says that they will be showing the game. It will be very popular though, I am sure, so you might want to call and book tables so you can get a view.
There are dedicated sports bars around with more TVs and better views, but probably won't have the same atmosphere :).
Thanks very much for all the advice and suggestions. I'll certainly check them out.

Andrassy Ut n. 22.
You just cannot miss it. It is one of the most beautiful buildings of Budapest. If not the most beautiful one and one of the most loved by the people of the city.
The opera in Budapest is not, as in the UK, an elitist way of entertainment and in fact, that is reflected in the prices, a lot cheaper than in the UK but with the same or better quality.
I realise that here the people goes to the opera as often as we would go to the cinema and of course, I guess they will be a lot more in the know that we are. Good for them ! If I lived here I would come every week too!! Do not miss a chance to come to the opera. Treat yourself, you won't regret it.
Pay a visit at the Central Market, close to Szabadsag bridge on the Pest side. The building is impressive and nice, though highly contaminated by an impressive number of tourists looking for artcrafts. If you stay on the ground floor, well you will have a cleare picture of Hungaruian food and way of life. For example, you will notice an impressive number of different kinds of smoked salami> worth trying!
EUROPE,HUNGARY,BUDAPEST,VÖRÖSMARTY TÉR IN THE CENTRE OF THE CITY,IN THE END OF THE FAMOUS VÁCI UTCA:
AT THE STATUE OF POET VOROSMARTY, ON MONDAYS AT SIX O'CLOCK YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE TEACHING FROM THE BIBLE AND YOU CAN HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH THE PEOPLE FROM COUNTRIES AND SPEAK WITH THEM IN MANY LANGUAGES.
Make a trip by the public rack railway to the Szechenyi hill (439 m). The TV-Tower is located on the hill and a Childrens Railway into the Buda hills starts here. The green hills offer a scenic panorama of Budapest.
For more information about the rack railway, read my Transportation Tip "Rack Railway of Szechenyi hegy".

A: "Strange but true you buy the 7-day pass. You can get these from post offices and transport ticket offices and the pass allows use of all public transport within the city..."
