Hi! my friend and i will be arriving in budapest from keleti train station, can anybody help us to get to the hilton budapest using the m2 line? i hear about notorious cabbies in budapest so the metro seems to be the best opyion. thanks!
IMO using public transport, especially the metro is not difficult. There are maps at all stations, so you can't get lost.
Exit Keleti station through the main exit, on street level (= don't go downstairs within the building). Turn left to find the stairway leading to the underpass (30 metres), in the underpass, the metro entrance is clearly signposted. You need the red line, so look for red signs. (Don't worry, that's the only operating metro line at Keleti palyaudvar.) Take the escalator to the station mezzannine, where you can buy your ticket. (Single 320 HUF, you might also need a 24-hr, 72hr or 7-day travelcard or 10-pcs carnet if you stay longer.) Go down using the escalator to the platform, turn right. That's the right platform for Deli palyaudvar-bound trains.
Take the metro for 3 stops to Deak Ferenc ter. Exit the station UPWARDS. At the station mezzannine, continue further straight ahead. Once on street level, make a U-turn to the right and walk straight until your reach a pedestrian crossing. Cross the road, turn left. You will find bus stops tbere. You need a bus 16, which terminates here, so you can't get on in the false direction. Take this bus for 6 stops. The bus will zigzag for a few minutes before it reached the Danube, it crosses the Chain Bridge and stops in front of the entrance of the Castle Tunnel. (There are 3 more stops to go.) Then it drives up to the Castle Hill. You'll have to get off at Szentharomsag ter (Holy Trinity Square), when you can sight of the Matthias Church and Hilton Budapest itself.
Does it sound difficult?
