    The reception is 24hr and the Hotel staff were extremely helpful and spoke excellent English, French and German (going on overheard conversations!).

    The price (11 pounds each) which includes a double room and a nice breakfast (prices go up in the high season).

    The rooms were clean and comfortable with a television, telephone, shower and if you're lucky- a small balcony.

    I wouldn't recommend the restaurant for evening meals, but the Hotel does have the advantage of it's own cocktail bar!

  • Directions: Get either a public transport bus (11, 91), tram 4, 6 or underground Nr.2. (red line). It is close to the centre and a 10 minute walk to the Buda castle area (uphill!).

  • Directions: This clean hotel is a bit far from the city centre because it's in Buda, the west bank of Danube river and close to Marguerite Island. However, it is not far from the Castle.

    Intimate little 'hotel' but really it resembles more of a Bed and Breakfast, small but clean lovely rooms, and friendly helpful staff.

    • The first time I was in Budapest, in 1995, I stayed at the Papillon (on the Buda side). It was cheap and entirely acceptable except for the aggressively pink-painted interiors...you may want sunglasses. When I traveled on business to Budapest in February 2001, I stayed at the new Kempinksi, in Pest. That was, hands down, the best hotel I've ever been in east of Geneva and west of Seoul. If you have the cash (or, better, if someone else does), it's a must.

    • The hotel papillon is on a quiet street on the buda side of town it is a tenish minute walk from moszkva ter metro station where you can take any number of transport options to pretty much anywhere in the city. the castle district is also near by. the hotel is very friendly and the rooms while basic are very clean. there is a garden at the back with a small pool. represents good value for money.
