Budapest winefest
by Mique
Every september there is a 2 week winefest in Budapest. Around the Buda Palace there is the wine exhibition and fair. Hungarian and foreign wine producers and distributors present their wines here. So get a ticket and have a good taste around... The fair is there only for a day but there are many other activities organised during this 2 week event.
We of course came though Buda Palace when the fair was going on. Since it was still rather early we decided to come back later and then start on the wine.. We never made it back of course. But watching all those people eating, drinking and enjoying themselves was worth watching too

Church on Huba street (off the beaten path)
by 1courage
You can find this church in a not very well known part of Budapest in a street paralel to the Váci street (Váci út and NOT Váci utca). If you take a daytip to Vác, it`s well worth to take a look to this fabulous church of the carmelite order-you will certainly see it`s tower from the street. And if you`re lucky, you find it open (I never>;-) ).
Built on Antal Hofhauser`s plans between 1895 and 1899.

Maria Magdalena church tower
by german_eagle
The tower is basically all that is left of the former Maria Magdalena church in Buda's old town at Kapisztran ter. The Franciscan church from 1276 had served as the parish church for the Hungarian citizens of Buda in medieval times (the choir for Catholics, the nave for Protestants) - with permission by the Turks who later turned this church also in a mosque.
In WWII nave and choir were destroyed, only the tower survived. One typical Gothic window was reconstructed and you can also see the bases of the church walls. It seems the place has nowadays become a popular place for the younger locals to hang out.
