When you will get out of the station you will find a crowded and active street (Terez korut). In the square area you will find a Supermarket, West End shopping center, some old beautiful buildings (you will notice the big commercial signs on them) and many taxi drivers that will take you to any place at very high price... so take it as a last option to get to the center. A better way of getting into the Downtown is by M3 (Just under the train station) that will take you to Deak ter and from there you can change metro line and get to your destination.
This is one of the places that i have been in them the most in my visits to Budapest, it was a starting point to many of my tours.
