Airport hotels

by flyplayne

Anyone know of decent hotels near BUD[LHBP]? So far I have found Ibis and Hotel Stacio. Any others close by? Would tourist office in a/p have a list? Thanx

RE: Airport hotels

by aramat

There are no hotels at the airport. This page gives you an overview of the closest hotels (app. 10-16 km from the airport): http://budapest.airporthotelguide.com/. Ibis Budapest Aero and Tulip Inn are probably the most convenient, but might be noisy. My choice would probably be Pava Plaza or Mercure Museum, because both are in relatively quiet areas.

Thanks for the information. Now if I can stand the temperatures of August in Budapest, and the Hungarian Grand Prix, I can stand anything. Thanks again; Joel

any information about hotel IBIS - is it near the center, is it in Budim or Pesta? I know just that it is ***hotel

Re: hotel

by IngaA

If this hotel is located at Radai u. than it's not far from the centre of Pest.

Re: hotel

by danbp

It depends on which IBIS are you talking about. IBIS has 4 hotels in Budapest
IBIS Budapest Emke is almost downtown, excellent public transportation - metro, tram, bus, trolleybus services, but poor car accesibility)
IBIS Budapest Aero is 15 minutes from the center by direct metro trains - metro, tram, bus services
IBIS Budapest Centrum is in the center of course - metro, tram, bus, trolleybus services
IBIS Budapest Váci út is 10 minutes from the center by direct metro trains - metro, bus, trolleybus services

All hotels are located in Pest, IBIS has no hotels in Buda.

Buda or Pest (even in English, and definitely in Hungarian). If you can choose, I would suggest to stay in Ibis Budapest Centrum, in Raday utca (street), it's next to the National Museum and a few minutes walk from the Market Hall and Vaci utca, the main shoping street. And Raday utca is a semi-pedestrian street with lots of cafes and restaurants, a very lively place (I used to live there and I loved it). Access is also very good (trams 47 and 49, blue metro line, bus 15 to the Parliament).
I hope you'll enjoy your stay!

Travel Tips for Budapest

Hossok Tere or Heroes square

by DPando

I visit it on my second stage in BUDAPEST. It was a pouring day. the rain wasnt so hard to disturb my visit...The former kings and important tribal leaders of Hungary are over a huge and long pedestal in hardened beahviour..equestrian statues are the most beautiful and impressive.

The monument was constructed to honour the millennial aniversary (1896)of the Magyar conquest of the Carpathian basin

One of the most beautiful points is that the long Avenue that runs to the square (Andrassy Utza) ..its for me the most beautiful street in the city plenty of great buildings, theatres, museums , its quite alike to Passeig de Gracia avenue in Barcelona..really nice

My Friends In Budapest...

by coceng

Here, I'm showing some friends that I met while I was in Budapest ! It was a truly pleasant stay with the locals being helpful, albeit mis-communications sometimes.
This is a photo of myself, posing there before entering the bath, of course.
It was taken at Gellert Bath as also the previous 2 photos with Alain.
No photo I could take inside the bath because there were too many naked men in there, well...almost.

General meeting place - Deak square

by MedioLatino

Another general meeting place for people in Budapest is the Deak square. We usually just say let's meet at the Porsche, because at the entrance of the underground (see picture) on the other side there was a Porsche Hungaria salon before (clothing shop nowdays).

It is a very logical meeting place, since the 3 underground lines meet just under the square, so no matter from which direction you are coming, it's easy to access.

Chinese market

by brwgrl

I can't think of the name of the market right now, but it's not the easiest thing to get to. The market itself is a maze of little booths covered by tarps and other kinds of roofing. There is a variety of goods to buy here, much of it has come in via railway from Asia and Russia. This is the place to find athletic shoes, soccer shirts/jackets, motorcycle/racing jackets, underwear and more.

It's a little hard to find but with a little persistence it's not too bad. If you are comfortable with the Metro and Tram systems then take the Metro to Kalvin ter and then take the 9 Tram to Orczy ter. The actual market is on Kobanyai near the Joszefvarosi palyaudvar (train station).

Examples of what we purchased: a Puma shirt (3500 Ft), pair of Puma Ferrari shoes (4400 Ft), soccer warmup jacket and 2 pullover soccer shirts (4500 Ft). They also had a variety of other good as mentioned above - bartering totally acceptable.

Step 4: Chairlift in Buda...

by mediamind

Step 4: Chairlift in Buda Hills. You should finish your tour in Buda Hills by taking the ride down by Chairlift from JanosHegy. This sky resort type of mean of transport will give you another chance to enjoy view of the city in comfort. You will deserve it after you climed up.
