Train, bus or flight between Budapest and Rome?

by CaGal

Hi,

We will be travelling between Budapest and Rome at the end of July (2 adults and 2 kids). What is the best way to travel....bus, train or flight? Was looking into eurorail, alitalia and malev. Any other websites that I can look into? Thanks for your reply.

Hello

you can check some of the cheap airlines like Wizzair (www.wizzair.com). It costs 65-100 eur per person to one way.

Personnaly I'd prefer train or flight.

Check Wizz Air (http://wizzair.com/)

Flight from Budapest to Rome 28 July - 2 adults & 2 children (2-14 years) USD 124/one-way.

Eurolines (http://www.volanbusz.hu/en/#indexmainpage) takes 18½ hours and cost about USD 40/pp nett price.

There are train tickets from Budapest to Venice (for a night train), that start from 29euro (you need to buy them in advance - they are limited in numbers). From Venice it is already not a problem to get to Rome...
But if you are OK with Wizzair flight I would recommend to book it as soon as possible - the price is very good ;)

I had trouble buying these international discounted train tickets on the web in May, probably you have to go to the MAV office in one of the big railway stations, no?

halikowski, it is obvious that some will have problems buying international tickets since MAV doesn't sell them online ;)
So yes, you need to buy them at any railway station or ticket office in the city center (near Deak Ferenc ter).

Visit the Zoo if you're in Budapest

by janika

Visit the Zoo if you're in Budapest. Thsi is the main entrance of the Budapest City Zoo. Don't feed the animals inside with junk food. They sell special food inside for the animals you can feed to them.

Packing List

Budapest is very civilized. Staying in hotels, eating in restaurants is there as common as in Amsterdam or New York. So you know what you need. Everyone is well dressed. So behave !
Good walking shoes for the city is something you might need. Rain is quiet normal there, so be prepared. Normal. No extra supply needed. Everything is available in the shops. Also on this one: Everything is available in the shops.

A short distance south of...

by Wings2Fly

A short distance south of Budapest is the Õpusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park where everyday is like a holiday. Visits are made memorable for the old and young, native and foreigner alike by the exhibitions of the Central Museum Building and the numerous attractions of the park. All ages can learn about the Hungarians’ last thousand-year history and art, and, in particular, the ancient culture of the Great Hungarian Plain. It is excellent for excursions for many special programmes are organised annually. The sights attract hundreds of thousands a year to this memorial site of the Hungarian conquest.

A huge rotunda houses the Feszty Panorama, “The Arrival of the Conquering Hungarians”, fine arts and historical exhibitions. There are many memorials built to such effects as timber production, harvesting, a memorial to the land redistribution, to name a few. There are wonderful reconstructions of a village which includes the school, workshops, homes, bakery, parish hall and post office. Exhibition houses of an open air ethnographic museum have been constructed to preserve the Great Hungarian Plain’s peasant architecture and tent shaped yurts have been built to demonstrate special aspects of nature in Europe. There is also a large outdoor stage area and excavations have revealed the ruins of an ancient monastery.
