Castle District - Budai var

In ancient times the Celts recognized how important the location of Budapest was. Much later, Bela IV, the 13th century Hungarian king, realized the importance of the Castle Hill. A surviving record tells us that Bela IV declared that a fortress was to be built here in 1255.

Also on top of the hill is Citadella, a fortification with old defensive walls from which a superb panorama of the city can be best captured. It was built for military purpose but never had the need to fire a cannon. Instead it served to inspire terror among the population. Today this place is a leisure complex which hosts a hotel, restaurant and wine bar. A good history about the hill is exhibited near the entrance gateway.
A New Friend
by cjg1
We made a new fiend in Budapest, Istvan. Liz actually first made contact with him through VT. Istvan met us at our hotel and spend all day into the late evening showing us his beautiful city. He was very knowlegable and proud of his wonderful city of Budapest. We were so happy to have met him and see Budapest through his eyes.
**Our friend requested that his face not be shown in pics so we honored the request by blocking out his face. He is a very private person. **

Pack a picnic when you visit the Buda side. After seeing the sites (Castle, Matyas Templom etc), wind down you day at the Fisherman's Bastion. There are some park benches around the Bastion - settle in with your picnic basket and watch the sun set over the Danube on a clear day in Spring, Summer, Fall.
Contemporary buildings - ING HQ
by MedioLatino
There are some really bad examples of contemporary architecture in Budapest (Kalvin square glass offices just for one...) but you can also find some interesting, let me say good ones as well!
I believe that the ING group's newly opened headquarter on Dozsa Gyorgy ut is one of them.
If you visit the Heroes Square, take a short walk on Dozsa Gyorgy ut and check out this building, together with the "time wheel" in fornt of it on the other side of the road (more on that later).
