    Quite nice from the inside

    by

The Marriott building is located in the very first Western hotel property in Budapest. Back then in the 1970'ies, it was the InterContinental (which is now a couple of meters north), and it is frankly an ugly builidng at a great location. Right next to the Danube it offers great views to the Buda side of the city.

From the inside it is really OK, with quite a business touch, but it has all you need. The service is mostly friendly, not extremely attentive, though.

As there are other internationals hotels right next to it (Sofitel, InterContinental, Four Seasons), you will find a vivid prostitution scene there, especially at night. If you don't mind this annoying fact, than the Marriott is a good place to both start and end your day.

    Best location in Budapest

    by

Arriving from Vienna after traveling in those subways, Budapest central station appeared bit chaotic and scary. Locating the subway from the main station appeared a task as there were easy directions, no counters. Added to this, tickets were also checked manually upon entering and exiting. It was a great relief seeing Marriott on our next stop (which was walking distance anyway). The moment we landed at Marriott it's a great experience. The staff, as usuall in Europe, were very friendly and helped us move around....

Unique Quality: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was great.

A superb hotel in every respect

    by

This hotel is highly recommended for the following reasons:
1- Spectacular view of the Danube River, where all the rooms have a view of it.
2- Convenient location as this hotel is 3 blocks away from Vaci Utca, a main pedestrian way lined with shops and restaurant. This hotel is just 4 blocks from the Vorosmarty Ter and Deak Ferenc Ter Metro stops.
3- Comfortable bed, clean linens and abundant pillows.
4- Hot and Cold buffet breakfast with a wide selection and abundant quantity that is flavorful.
5- Conveniently 1 block to the Tram # 2 that runs up and down the Danube Promenade, which is a site seeing tour ride in of itself.
6- Conveniently 2 blocks from the cruise boat company, Legenda, that provides day and night time cruise trips on the Danube River.
7- Location of this hotel was quite safe as it is close to the main tourist areas and the neighborhood was pretty decent.

Unique Quality: All rooms have a view of the Danube River. A hotel with an excellent location. Definitely a "comebacker."

Directions: On the Danube Promanade on the Pest side, 3 blocks from Vaci Utca.

  • Budapest Marriott Great location, Fantastic views

    by

The Budapest Marriott is one of several 5 star hotels right on the Danube in downtown Budapest. I believe it was 4 stars until the recent (2008) room renovations. The large fitness center was still under renovation during my visit in Oct. 2008.

It is in an ideal location between the Elizabeth and the Chain Bridges. The Vaci Utca pedestrian street is just a few minutes walk inland, and the metro is about 5 minutes from the hotel. There is a deli across the street, which did not use. Best of all, the riverside promenade is right outside the door, and each hotel room has a glorious view of the river and the hills of old Buda beyond. There are no “back rooms”.

Since the hotel was built a few decades ago, the gray concrete exterior looks dated, but the inside has been renovated and the rooms are beautiful. There is a small (inaccessible) balcony outside each room. Part of the window wall does open for fresh air.

The bedding is topnotch -- pillow top mattress and ultra fine sheets and down duvet. The bath and amenities are also fine. Even though I got the room at a steep discount by bidding priceline, I was given a room on the 7th floor and no mention was made of priceline or the low rate, although the desk clerk looked surprised when she checked the rate to see if it included breakfast (it did not -- the breakfast buffet was 33USD, so I skipped it).

The only minor complaint I had was a 5 minute wait to check in and again to check out (there were few guests but there is no organized line and the clerks talked among themselves as I waited).

I would highly recommend this hotel for location and room quality, and at the priceline bid price the value is unbeatable.

Unique Quality: All views have river views.

    central luxurious hotel

    by

The Marriott hotel is another 5 stars luxurious hotel with 380 rooms.
Like the other luxurious hotels close to the hotel (Intercontinental , Sofitel , Gresham Palace) - the hotel offers great view to the Danube , the castle hill and Gellert hill.

Unique Quality: Great view with central location.

Directions: Close to the chain bridge and the city center.

    Wouldn't recommend it!

    by

We were really not happy with our stay here, although our bed was really good and the breakfast was more than ok also. The biggest problem was our room and the check-in though. When we arrived we were given a room on the first floor, but when we got in that room, it really smelled of cigarettes. Apparently it was a smoking room, but no one at reception had asked if we smoked or not. So we called and asked for another room, but when we got in that room, it was totally not clean: rubbish on the floor, glass rings on the desk and night stands, a bed where clearly someone had been sitting on,... . So we asked to change again, and our 3rd room (which we entered about an hour after our arrival) seemed fine. BUT: the next morning we were woken up at 6am by drilling and hammering in the room next to ours. We called, and they said they would look into it, but we didn't hear anything anymore. Also the next morning we were woken up really early; they were renewing our entire floor I think.

So we were totally not treated as welcome guests; good we only stayed there for 3 nights.

Unique Quality: In spite of our bad experiences we liked to view on the river and the bed.

Directions: Alongside the water on the Pest side, 5 minutes walking from the Chain bridge.

  • Fantastic views from the room

    by

This is a very nice hotel. The room was of decent size and the facilities were clean. The staff was most helpful in arranging transportation and answering questions. We used our Mariott points to stay here so I can't comment on the price/value.

Unique Quality: This hotel is located within easy walking distance of the Royal Palace, Old Town, and the shopping district of Vaci. The Mariott is directly on the Danube River and it looked to us as if all rooms had great views of the river. We especially liked sitting on the balcony as the sun set watching the lights come on the Charles Bridge and Royal Palace.

Staff here were very friendly and the room very comfortable, absolutely no complaints

Unique Quality: Views over the Danube

    Best Views from every room!

    by

I have been staying at this hotel since the 70's and it is by far one of the best in the city! Every room faces the Danube and it's beautiful bridges. It is centralling located on the Pest side of the river. Clubs and shopping on Vaci Utca are within a couple blocks. If you have the means to splurge, I recommend this hotel!

Airport transportation to Budapest Marriott...choices?

by ddschur

My wife and I, and plenty of luggage, will be arriving BUD and were wondering about the best options to get to the Marriott hotel.

Price is not a big issue and we would prefer private transportation.

Can anyone recommend a safe, reliable, and reputable transportation option from the airport to the hotel?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Airport transportation to Budapest Marriott...choices?

by doodybee

you can always ask the marriott to arrange a pick up for you
they may have their own mini-bus for this use as some large hotels seem to

alternatively ask them what price a taxi should cost you and get one at the airport on arrival ( if the hotel can tell you how much to expect ypu will not be ripped off - although if you go to the taxi desk in the arrivals hall this should not happen

enjoy budapest

The usual price of a taxi from Ferihegy to the city (almost any part of it) is around 20-25 euro

Re: Airport transportation to Budapest Marriott...choices?

Radio Taxi 7-777-777 takes you there at a fare of 4100 HUF (15 EUR, at current 280 HUF/EUR rate). Please note that the taxi rank may only be used by Zona Taxi (their rate for inbound airport transfers is over 5000 HUF), so you have to order a taxi online or on the phone. There is a designated rank for other taxi companies to collect those passengers who had ordered a taxi.
