Mercure Korona
I have been 3 times in Budapest and each time choosed Mercure Korona Hotel. very good location, good transportation around, close to Danube. the staff was very helpfull and very friendly and it makes my stay enjoyable. especialy thanks to László at the front desk (with beard :))

Great hotel in a great location
This was the hotel i stayed in.
This hotel is a 4 stars hotel with good food , nice rooms , friendly staff , good location
This hotel is located in a central location - a few minutes walking from the Danuce and the covered market hall , Vaci Utca , the national museum , the Jewish synagogue and more.
You will also find a metro line just in front of the hotel , on Kelvin square.

Mercure Korona Hotel
It was a great hotel and the location was excellent for the Pest side. The underground was 20 feet away, and the local marketplace was only 6 blocks and just across the river was Gellert Hill. WE were very pleased with the rooms also and the food at breakfast was a lot and good. Staff were veryhelpful.
Unique Quality: Across the street is your very own dancer in the window to draw you into the enclave, hoping you will buy a drink, or something.

One of the most impressive and beautiful hotels that i saw in Budapest.
The 4* hotel is huge with 424 rooms, sounds very big.... has many services available for the tourists such minibar, tv's and swimming pool and a garage for 130 cars.
Unique Quality: This hotel is in a beautiful and centeral part of the city, near Kalvoin ter. Its opposite to the National museum and only walking distance from the great Market Hall and the Danube Bank.

Good location
The Hotel Mercure Korona is located downtown opposite the National Museum and 5 minutes walk to the Danube River.-
The rooms are very comfortable, but you will be patient with the staff. They´re a little nervous.-

I will be staying here this weekend with 6 pals, I have been told that it is right in the center and is good. Can anyone confirm and suggest a nice local food restaurant in the area?

Yes, it's really in the center area, you can go anywhere from here by the underground (Metro), tram or bus. If you want to visit the monuments, I suggest you buying a 3 days travelcard or Budapest Card.
Local restaurant: you can try Kárpátia étterem (addr: Ferenciek tere 7-8.) or Mátyás pince (addr: Március 15. tér 7.), these are walking distance from your hotel (approx. 10 minutes). You can also try the southern part of Váci utca (go towards Szabadság híd, you'll find it), there are also some restaurants.

Yes, it's in the centre. Best bet for a good meal is Karpatia, which is within walking distance (book ahead).

Not far from your hotel;(reception can also guide you) is a restaurant chain specializing in BreadedVeal or in Hungarian, becsiszelet. Veal hammered very thin, then coated with bread crumbs; this is a hungarian dish shared with the Viennese. I highly recommend you try it, you will find the restaurant on Üllöi út.
