Hi,
I've just made for dinner a "Harcsapaprikas with túroscsusza".
Harcsa is catfish,
paprikas or called porkolt is stew(it's tipical hungarian food. It can be made with chichekn, beef, pig. It's a food making type. Based on onion oil some paprika)powder and real one) with tomatoe.
Turoscsusza is a special hungarian dish. It's based on a normal boiled pasta. Mixed with curd cheese. Put it to an oven pan and throw some roasted baken on the top. Put this oven pan to the oven for 10-15 minutes.

I've made some photo, I'm sending you in mail.

Excuse for my poor Hungarian language, boys from Hungary. I did not eat enough hungarian meal for learning Hungarian better :-)
I left Hungarian area in my country in my 3 and then I went to my grandparents only during vacations.

Hi Kata,

There is nothing wrong with your hungarian. People from countryside speaks hungarian with different pronounciations.
So "perkelt" is understandable for me:-)Your hungarian is perfect:-)

I know it's not too helpful, but it might make you feel sort of secure: these dishes are a MUST on the menu of any restaurant serving Hungarian food. Otherwise we're not talking about a Hungarian restaurant but something else: maybe international cuisine or else.

I can recommend you these suburban restaurants, some 30-40 minutes from the city center:
Kakas Etterem - www.kakas.hu (take metro M3 to its terminal Kobanya-Kispest and then buses 182 184 to stop Tinodi utca, then walk back one block and turn left)
Laszlo Tanya Etterem - laszlotanya.fw.hu (from M3 Kobanya-Kispest by buses 182 184 282E 284E to stop Jokai Mor utca, walk back one block to locate restaurant)
Zila Kavehaz - www.zilakavehaz.hu (from M3 Kobanya-Kispest by buses 93 182 184 193E 282E 284E or from M3 Hatar utca by tram 50 to stop Szarvas csarda ter; from buses, walk to the main street with tram tracks and walk to the left)

History may not have spared...

by Pegasus74

History may not have spared the city, but could never destroy it. This is where the Hungarians today proudly call it their land, where I think is an excellent place to go for vacation. I will never forget the warm Hungarian hospitality that has ensured me a wonderful trip, köszönöm.

Taste the local flavor

by Gypsystravels

Hungarian goulash is considered the most famous of Hungarian meals. It is said that everyone has their own version or way of cooking it by adding or omitting some ingredients, but they all call their recipe "authentic gulyás".

The main ingredients to this wonderful dish is beef which is cooked with onions, Hungarian paprika powder, tomatoes and some green pepper. Some will add some potatos and/or noodles. When a goulash is well cooked properly it should have a somewhat thick consistency which may resemble a sauce and is usually eatan as main dish.

Cycling around the city

by ophiro

If you want to ride your bicycle in Budapest there are a lot of bicycle lanes around the city and a lot of the people use them , both locals and tourists.

There are traffic lights for bicycles so they can pass busy streets.

There are places where you can rent bicycles for a few hours.
Bicycle of course and don't forget helmet and water.

Bedo House

by leics

This building is on Honved Utca, very near to Szabadsag Ter in the Lipotvaros district (where the Parliament building is).

I thought it was lovely...and I'm not really into 20th century architecture. There is a sort of 'Hansel and Gretel' feel about its exterior, somehow, even though it is such a huge building.

It dates from 1903 and the architect was Emil Vidor. It houses the Museum of Hungarian Art Nouveau (which is highly appropriate), with a cafe, and has been beautifully restored.

Well worth seeking out, imo.
