Novotel Congress

A good value business hotel with decent rooms and a reasonable central location. It has a fantastic reception, with comfortable seating, free internet connection, and games for kids and adults alike, all suplemented by strangely soporific piped music. It is staffed by plentiful, professional and pleasant workers, who seem to only get stressed when they are deluged by some of the mass conventions of Russian businessmen that descend occasionally upon the hotel.

While the rooms are good value, the breakfast, at nearly 20 euros, is not. Neither is the Internet, which is operated by the German Telcom company I have grown to hate, and costs 16 euros per 24 hours, more than some monthly ASDL connections. It is, at least, a decent speed, unlike every other Telcom service I've experienced before.

The rooms are a reasonable size, and are clean, modern and kitted out with everything you'd expect of a decent hotel, including mini-bar, safe and a flat screen TV. The views from the west side of the building, of the Buda hills, are great, but on windy nights the squalls screech down from the hills and scream through the panels on the high sheer walls of the hotel. It's enough to keep the sleepless up all night.

Personally I think there are better hotels in Budapest, and only use it because of its location near to the office. But you won't go far wrong with it if you can't find anything more suitable.

good to sleep at nights :)

It's not so close to metro lines but the view was good at 8th floor.

Novotel Budapest Congress Hotel.

by Travelguy-uy

We are a family from South America with 2 kids (7 and 12) who will be visiting Budapest on November. We booked a family room (online) at the Novotel Budapest Congress Hotel. The room rate was really good (60 euros), but I would like to know if the hotel is really in a downtown location or if it is easy to reach tourist attractions using public transportation.

it's smack in the center. you can walk to any downtown sight from there, or use public transport. get a free map from the local tourist office that displays the tram lines (most free maps don't) but be careful to use the correct ticket, for they control a lot! and the ticket system is rather complicated. but the PT is safe, fast and substantial.

Novotel is not in the downtown but is not far from it, however it would take quite a nice walk to get to any touristic site from there on foot.
The hotel is nice, it is in a green residential area and the bus no. 8 stops in fron tof it. If you take i the bus you get to downtown (Váci utca) within 5-10 minutes. A large shopping mall is very close and you can take pleasant walks in the evening. The Castle district is also rather close with public transportation, just take the tram to Moszkva tér (square) and the bus for the Castle leaves from there or you can also walk up to the Castle hill.
I think it is a good place, much better than a hotel in the noisy downtown area.

vebea is right!

enjoy your stay!

Vebea is right. In addition to bus 8 from Marcius 15 ter (downtown, next to Erzsebet hid - Elizabeth bridge), Novotel Congress Hotel can be reached by
- bus 139 from Deli palyaudvar - Southern railway station (M2 red metro line),
- bus 112 from Ferenciek tere (downtown, M3 blue metro line) and
- tram 61 from Moszkva ter (M2 red metro line, tram 4-6 from the centre, Varbusz - castle bus - from the Castle district).

So you've got a lot of choice. MOM Park mall is next to the hotel, with supermarket, gym, cinema, etc. I think it's a good choice (better than the other Novotel, Novotel Budapest Centrum, because it's in a very busy road, even if closer to downtown).
Enjoy your stay in Budapest!

I'd like to add one thing:
If you are there, and you want to use the public transport a lot, you can buy a tourist ticket for a few days. It's cheaper than the normal tickets, and you can use the bus, metro and tram as many times as you like!

Enjoy your stay!

that.s good advice from hilde!
the ticketing system is quite complicated (i think) and you save a lot of hassle if you buy a time-pass.
