Fishermen's Bastion (Halászbástya)
by Sarita76
The Neo-Romanesque Fishermen's Bastion was built at the turn of the century as part of the reconstruction of the Matthias Church and its surroundings, in the Castle District, not far from the Royal Palace. Tradition has it that this stretch of the medieval ramparts used to be defended by the fishermen's guild, though the name might also derive from a nearby former fish market.
The seven towers represent the seven Magyar (Hungarian) tribes. Each of the chiefs has his own statue, and the steps leading down to the city are dotted with figures, such as St. George and the Dragon.
The function of the present bastion was both decorative and to serve as a look-out terrace over the Danube. The view from here is magnificent - Margaret Island, Margaret Bridge and the Parliament are to the left, the Chain Bridge, the riverside hotels, Elizabeth Bridge and Gellért Hill to the right. In 1988 the entire panorama of the Danube embankment in central Budapest was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Elizabeth Bridge (Erzsebet hid)
by Gentleman75
The new Elizabeth Bridge on 15th March and the Gellert Hill on back. The old bridge was nicer, but unfortunately it was explosed in the WWII on 18th January 1945. The new one is only 40 years old.

Budapest is divided into 23 separate districts, each indicated by a Roman numeral which prefixes the street name i.e. VI. Budakeszi ut 65. Post codes comprise of four digits: 1067; the middle two representing the district - i.e. 06 is district VI. The most common type of street is an utca (often abbreviated as u.) although confusingly an ut. refers to a wide boulevard. Other thoroughfare names include: fasor (alley), rakpart (embankment).

Visegrad Castle - Mideavel History @ its finest
by beluga
The Visegrad castle is famous in Hungary. And for a reason. The castle was built around 1258. In the 14th century it became the seat of Royal power. The town of Visegrad grew rapidly in those days. Much of the town and castle was later destroyed during the turkish occupation.
Currently the castle is being restored. Its location is magnificent. Views over the Donau are very nice and inside the castle they made some exhibitions.
