Corinthia Grand Hotel or K&K Hotel Opera
by nayha
Hi all- we've narrowed down our hotels to two choices: Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal or K&K Opera. I've read reviews and both sound great! Corinthia is a bit more expensive but not that much more than K&K though K&K has breakfast.
Is anyone familiar with the location or these hotels? Is one better than the other? Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal is listed as a top luxury hotel so I thought it might be fun to stay there since it's actually affordable (~$100 USD/night) but K&K seems charming and breakfast is a great plus!!!
Any thoughts?

Nothing wrong with the K+K Opera and it does have its little luxury touches too. It's in a good central location next to the Opera House, round the corner from the metro and easy to find. Also the breakfast is GREAT, one of the best I've ever come across!
Enjoy Budapest, whatever your choice of hotel.

check out hotel normafa too
its not as central as the others being in th eBuda Hills but the setting is lovely and the hotel wonderful and this also has breakfast( a brilliant one with a running hot & cold buffet and also special hot chioces) the hotel has a bus stop outside which goes down into Moskva Ter where you can access most of the transport links to other areas - rather cheap by english standards too - have a great time where ever you chose to stay
budapest is brilliant

sorry, bestuser, that's quite irrelevant here. What about advertising elsewhere? (Nice copy+paste comments within half an hour with questionable timing and relevancy.)
Travel Tips for Budapest
Budapest Tip

this is not really a fondest memory but the reason of my trip to Budapest: a fair to which took part
the company I worked for about 9 years ago.
in the pic with me my colleagues... and yes, seeing this pic and me with a small bunch of flowers in my hand brings me a fond memory too... they had bought it to me and to the other two women, which were the boss and her daughter, that evening by a pedlar and as I'm not so used to get flowers, I'm always thrilled by them...
Inside the Roses square church III-pulpit&altars
by 1courage
The neo-gothic pultpit is partiularly nice even if it`s not in use anymore (well, only in a few occasions). You can notice the relief of Christ and the four evangelists on the lower part, while on the upper part there are nice pyrogranite statues.
The gilded wooden side altars are work of the artist Mór Hőltzl.
The left side altar represents Gabriel archangel, while the right one depicts Saint Antony of Padua.
Christmas Traditions
by blint
On the night of December 5th St Nicholas (Szent Mikulas) or in Britain or America as he is known: Father Christmas or Santa Claus comes to visit.
This tradition originates from the story that Mikulas wanted to help out a poor old man who did not have the money to pay the dowry for his daughters therefore they would have been sold into slavery. Mikulas is thought to have thrown money into his shoes drying by the open fire. This brought about the tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace in the hope of getting presents.
These days in Hungary the children receive sweets of small toys on this night and Szent Mikulas is thought to be accompanied by an angel and a type of black demon who looks for those children who have been naughty and leaves them golden twigs as a warning.
On Saturday 6th December you can in fact see many shop workers and so forth wearing horns and carrying golden twigs.
Lucky Horse Balls
by cjg1
The Castle District has a statue of Andras Hadik. I was told by a local that the university students rub the shiny balls of the statues horse before they take an exam. This action is supposed to bring them luck and help them pass the exam. We found this amusing and Liz had me hoist her up for a rub.
Andras Hadik was a Hungarian Count of Futak. He was commander of an Habsburg army corps in the Seven Years' War under Prince Charles Alexander of Lorraine. He was Governor of Galicia and Lodomeria from January 1774 to June 1774, and the father of Károly József Hadik.
Step 2: Children's Railway in...
by mediamind
Step 2: Children's Railway in Buda Hills. You can continue your jurney with another unique train of Hungary. Actually I think it is quite unique around the world too. This train is run by children in age 10-14. Well, actually the engine is run by an adult, but all other thing like ticketing, contolling, station management, etc. is done by kids. The idea was invented by kommunists, and the train used to called Pioneer's Train, but people loved it so much so it survived changes. More info on http://www.gyermekvasut.com/english.html
